Visit the Cathedral of St. James

The best starting point when exploring the city is the Cathedral of St. James. This UNESCO World Heritage Site was built over 105 years in Gothic and Renaissance styles.

Among the unique features of the Cathedral is the fact that its walls are entirely made of stone without any mortar or binding materials.

There are 71 sculpted human heads on the outside of the cathedral's walls that depict Sibenik citizens during the cathedral's construction. One of the most notable features of St James Cathedral is the statue of Juraj Dalmatinac located on the Cathedral's square. During the construction of this cathedral, Juraj was the most significant Venetian sculptor and architect.

Across the Cathedral of St. James, on the main city square, you can find Šibenik Town Hall, built in Venetian style, and decorated with unique details and elements. Around the cathedral, you can find many amazing restaurants or just take a walk through the picturesque, ancient streets of the city.

Discover Šibenik Fortresses

Šibenik is home to four fortresses that were built between the 15th and 17th centuries - the Fortresses of St. Nicholas, St. John, St. Michael, and the Baron fortress. Each of them offers a unique experience and is worth visiting.

The most famous Fortress is the one closest to the town, St. Michael’s Fortress. The fortress offers a spectacular panoramic view of Šibenik and inside the fortress walls, you can find an exhibition.

The fortress was renovated in 2014., and during the summer months, you can enjoy summer concerts on the outdoor stage beneath the stars, an experience like no other.

Take a walk in St. Anthony’s Channel

There is something truly magical about St. Anthony's Channel in Sibenik. Both its natural beauty and cultural significance make it a place of great importance. The Channel of St. Anthony stretches from the Šibenik Bridge on the north side to the Venetian Fortress of St. Nicholas, and the sea beyond it.

When visiting this place there are several things you'll enjoy, except the four kilometers long, nice walk by the sea. The cave of St Anthony is located somewhere in the middle of the walking trail, and the trail ends with the Fortress of St Nicolas, one of the most unique fortification systems in the world.

During the 16th century, it was built as a defensive structure against the Turkish invasion. The entrance to the fortress is possible only from the seaside with organized boats.
