On December 10, this year's ice art was revealed at Icehotel on the riverbank in Jukkasjärvi, Sweden. For the 32nd year in a row, Icehotel opened the doors to its yearly winter hotel, filled with fantastic art suites and sculptures made entirely of ice and snow.
During two intense weeks, 27 artists from around the world, together with the hotel's construction team and Creative Director Luca Roncoroni, have built and created this year's winter hotel and all of its art. In addition to the 12 art suites in Icehotel 32, a special ice ceremony hall has also been built by the artists Marjolein Vonk & Maurizio Perron.

Among the seasonal suites, guests can travel back in time and visit London's mysterious alleys in the "Dickensian Street" art suite, created by Jonathan Green & Marnie Green. Or why not sleep in a suite filled with chickens in "To bed with the chickens", created by Edith Van de Wetering & Wilfred Stijger? In Edith and Wilfred's homeland of the Netherlands, the phrase "go to bed with the chickens" means going to bed early - not a stupid thing to do in this fantastic art suite.
Once again, the artists managed to create mesmerizing rooms, which I’m sure will bring our guests into dream worlds and will create unique memories. Every year it´s an inspiration to witness the synergy between 70 amazing individuals gathering in Jukkasjärvi; artists, builders, light designers, and production staff all work with the common goal of creating life-enriching moments for our guests. Icehotel 32 and all its art and rooms will only be available to be experienced during the coming winter season, before everything, in the spring melts down and reunites with the Torne river. What remains is the permanent part of Icehotel, Icehotel 365, with Icebar, a movie theater, and an exhibition made of ice and snow, as well as another 9 art suites and 9 deluxe suites, three of which are new for the season.
The new art suites in Icehotel 365 consist of "Wanderlust" created by the German artists Kristina Möckel & Sebastion Scheller, "Strobilus Land" created by Swedish Linda Vagnelind, and "A midsummer night's dream" created by the Swedish design duo Bernadotte & Kylberg.
This is how Icehotel 32 was created
Sweden, Poland, Great Britain, Spain, Chile, Norway, the Netherlands, France, Germany, and Italy are all countries represented among this year's artists. Some of the artists have visited and worked at Icehotel before, while others have experienced Jukkasjärvi for the first time. What all artists have in common is that they have been carefully selected by Icehotel to create unique works of art and suites that our guests can enjoy.
The work began already in March when over a thousand large blocks of ice were harvested from the Torne River and then transformed into art as powerful as the nature that surrounds the Icehotel.
Icehotel opened in 1989 and is beside a hotel also an art exhibition with ever-changing art made out of ice and snow. Icehotel is created in a new guise every winter, completely made out of natural ice from Torne River, one of Sweden´s national rivers and last untouched waters. When the winter season´s hotel has melted back into the river during the spring, a part of the hotel remains; a place where visitors can experience the ice and show all year round.
