Interview with the General Manager of Iguazu Grand Resort, Spa & Casino
April 12, 2010
Christine Gray
What is unique about your hotel's location?
Undoubtedly it is the Iguazú Falls, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with the most spectacular waterfalls on earth, the unique factor that brings thousands of travelers to Misiones, Argentina. Iguazu National Park is one of the world's most extraordinary wonders, running as a finalist to become one of 2012 Seven Natural Wonders.
Placed in the city of Puerto Iguazu, minutes away from the Argentine customs, it is equidistant to the Argentine and Brazilian sides of the falls. Three international airports are located in a 25-mile radius from the hotel: Puerto Iguazu (Argentina), Foz de Iguazu (Brazil) and Ciudad del Este (Paraguay).
What authentic local experiences will guests have access to?
Visit the animal rescue center; visit the hydro-electric dam in Brazilthe largest in South America. Visit to the local Guarani aborigines villages to learn about their culture and customs as well as Argentina's most exuberant and colorful orchid gardens.
What are some amazing things that your Concierge can arrange?
Our Concierge arranges customized itineraries including private bilingual guides & transfers to both sides of the falls & surrounding sites, private full moon dinner by the lagoon menu designed with the chef and background harp music, tango classes in our "Café Magic" theatre, exclusive poker classes by our Casino Manager as well as couples massage at the romantic Spa Suite.
Does your hotel have a philosophy?
That guests leave the hotel feeling they must show the world what they have just discovered.
What makes your hotel memorable and unforgettable?
The hotel's location near the amazing Iguazu Falls, plus the wonderful accommodations, and full-service resort facilities make this a special place. No other hotel offers all the amenities and activities, including a theater, spa, a casino, Kids Club and fine dining.
What will guests rave about to their friends and family?
The beautifully appointed enormous rooms; the gorgeous gardens and pools and the great location.
What is the atmosphere of your hotel? What types of guests does it attract?
The atmosphere is casual elegance. It attracts everyone from honeymooners to families to casino-goers.
What makes your hotel a destination within itself?
The hotel offers day and nighttime activities so guests could never leave the property and not be bored. There are two restaurants, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a spa, three tennis courts, a Organic garden, a theater, an Ecological trail with indigenous vegetation, a casino and a kids club.
Do you have a favorite meal in your restaurant(s)?
Yes, we do. Our favorite meal includes our famous local river fish: "Griddle surubí with coal-grilled vegetables, sautéed tapioca, onion, eggs and herbs."
What is the best way for guests to "arrive in style" to your hotel?
Hire one of the hotel's town cars, book one of our Mercedes.
Do you provide any welcoming or parting amenities to guests?
Guests are always welcomed with a drink with tropical fruits from the region but we are always surprising our guests with unique amenities that will show them how grateful we are that they came to visit.
Can you recommend other destinations/hotels nearby (within 300 miles) that your guests should consider combining into a trip?
Wanda Mines featuring semi precious stones, San Ignacio Jesuit Ruins and the Three Frontier Landmark: it is not very often that one has the opportunity to observe three countries from a corner separated by two rivers!
