ISPA Members Shoot for the Birdie with Golfer Spa Treatments
September 9, 2014
Members of the International SPA Association (ISPA) offer treatments designed specifically to help improve a golfer's game and prevent injury pre- and post-game.
“For athletes, a healthy body is essential and it is important for them to decrease pain and invest in preventative practices,” says ISPA President Lynne McNees. “In order to play up to their full potential, golfers need to be relaxed in both body and mind, without the threat of injury.”
ISPA members recognize their role in improving golfers' games and offer treatments that are tailored to the guests who are more often a guest of the green rather than the spa. Here's what ISPA members are doing to give their golfing guests a competitive edge on the course:
• The Club at Las Campanas in Santa Fe, N.M. partnered with Titleist to create “Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) Golf Conditioning.” With “TPI Golf Conditioning” guests are able to identify limitations and weaknesses in movement. Each golfer is provided with a strength and conditioning program along with body treatments that will help minimize injury risk and maximize function.
• Evensong Spa in Green Lake, Wis. tailors their “Restorative Golfer's Massage” to fit guest specifications. As a preventative treatment or part of the post-game routine “Restorative Golfer's Massage” incorporates stretching, Myofascial trigger point therapy and aspects of Swedish and deep therapy massage to increase range of motion and improve circulation.
• Kohler Waters Spa in Kohler, Wis. has developed a “Golfer's Pre-Round Treatment” where therapists use techniques of gentle stretching and acupressure to improve flexibility and set guests up for the perfect round of golf. The “Golfer's Pre-Round Treatment” uses a technique that indirectly activates tendons and ligaments to supplement flexibility.
• Mii amo in Sedona, Ariz. has fostered an entire menu–“Seven Treatments for Seven Canyon Golfers”–catered to their golfing guests. “Golf and the Law of Attraction” is part of the pre-game selection, it targets the golf state of mind in order to prepare guests mentally and physically before teeing off.
• Sante Spa Victoria in Victoria, B.C. created “The Mulligan” for guests who spend most of their stay in golf shoes. This river rock foot-soak relieves the tension in foot and leg muscles after a round of golf. “The Mulligan” is designed to reduce swelling and inflammation while stimulating recovery.
• Sense Spa at Rosewood CordeValle in San Martin, Calif. provides golfers with “The 19th Hole Spa Tapas” treatment menu which features modified, 30-minute versions of other spa services. One option available via the “19th Hole Spa Tapas” is a neck and shoulder massage called “Full Swing.” It is specifically designed to relieve major muscle groups associated with a golfer's swing.
• The Spa at Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale at Troon North in Scottsdale, Ariz. offers the “Golfer's Massage.” This treatment incorporates warmed golf balls and therapeutic stretching techniques to relax tight muscles that can be linked to golf-related stiffness. By kneading and stretching the targeted muscle groups, the “Golfer's Massage” provides relief pre- or post-game.
• The Spa at Hammock Beach in Palm Coast, Fla., provides a “Golferssage” which caters to the alleviation of areas typically strained during prolonged golfing sessions. “Golferssage” includes a deep tissue massage followed by extensive stretching to assist golfers with flexibility and range of motion.
• The Spa at Pinehurst in Pinehurst, N.C. offers “The Champions Massage” which focuses on specific golfer-tension areas including the shoulders, neck and upper back. Hot stones and deep-heat therapy are used to improve development of flexibility and range of motion while also speeding up post-game recovery.
• Sundara Inn & Spa in Wisconsin Dells, Wisc. has developed the “Champissage,” a massage designed to relieve the tension areas most commonly associated with golf, including the shoulders, neck and back.
