Kahala Hotel & Resort Completes $52 Million Renovation
While renovation work has been discreet, the improvements now are unmistakable. All guestrooms in the resort's Tower and Dolphin wings, The Kahala Spa, signature suites, meeting spaces and porte cochere have been redone with costs totaling US$52 million (US$30 million solely for guest rooms).

With 338 guestrooms, The Kahala Hotel & Resort is an exclusive oceanfront destination resort known for its impeccable service and hospitality. Just minutes from Waikiki, yet offering the peace and serenity of a neighbor island experience, The Kahala has been Honolulu's social address for weddings and gatherings since its opening in 1964. Captains of industry and celebrity guests continue to call The Kahala their home-away-from-home in Hawai'i.

The Kahala has five restaurants including the award-winning Hoku's, a spa, and a lagoon that is home to six Atlantic bottlenose dolphins. The resort is a member of The Leading Hotels of the World and Preferred Hotels & Resorts, and is long recognized internationally as an icon among legendary resorts. In 2009, The Kahala celebrated 45 years as one of Hawaii's top resort destinations.

The resort's Diamond Head and Koko Head guestrooms and suites have taken on an island-style influence. Each room and suite epitomizes the resort's signature "Kahala Chic" design, a contemporary look with an open and airy tropical feel reflecting the elegant island lifestyle enjoyed in residential Kahala. Other notable influences include:

Decor: Guest rooms and suites feature ivory and coffee color tones, new Sealy Stearns Foster Memory Foam Pillow Top beds, and accents such as window-box framed nautilus shells, ruffle-edged mirrors and uniquely painted dressers. Guest rooms also include hibiscus-patterned wall-to-wall carpeting while Ipe (Brazilian walnut) wood flooring and hand-woven dhurrie rugs in tropical flower patterns decorate all suites.

Technology: wireless Internet access, Sony 40-inch flat screen LCD TVs, Sony alarm clock radio with iPod hook up and cordless phones. (Suites also include a Sony home theatre system and deluxe espresso machine.)

Amenities: silky heavy thread count Egyptian cotton linens embroidered with tropical island flowers custom designed for The Kahala by Frette of Italy, Frette towels and plush chenille robes are standard; rain showerheads in all showers; Floris of London bath amenities with a signature Kahala fragrance

The Kahala also boasts a pair of newly refreshed beachfront sister suites, the Kahala Suite and the Beachfront Suite, both located in the most private area of the Dolphin Lagoon Wing and steps from the beach. The Kahala Suite features Nicole Miller furniture in dark woods and earth tone fabrics for an elegant yet contemporary look. Complete with a dining table and outside barbecue grill, The Kahala Suite is snazzy enough for formally entertaining up to 50 guests, or a casual get together in a comfortable indoor/outdoor setting. The second-level Beachfront Suite has a cozy beach cottage feeling with décor from the Ralph Lauren Polo Collection.

Five new treatment rooms have also been added to the Kahala Spa, each with a commanding view of the golf course and Koko Head Crater and large enough to accommodate couples treatments. The spa also includes a men's retreat complete with a barber's chair for shaves and there is another suite dedicated to manicures and pedicures. Spa guests can also enjoy a new outdoor lounge area.

The Kahala has refreshed over 11,500 square feet of meeting and ballroom space with a complete décor redo from floor to ceiling. New carpeting of yellow and orange cymbidium orchid patterns, a Celadon and sage color scheme with damask wallpaper and carved wood panels emphasize the hotel's Hawaiian charm. Impressive hand-carved and custom buffet tables, armoires and hutches along with the custom designed chandeliers and island inspired shell mosaic artwork further accent the spaces.
