Kempinski Hotel Brazzaville Heralds a New Era of Luxury in the Republic of Congo

History was made in the Republic of Congo last week during a high-profile ribbon-cutting ceremony for Kempinski Hotel Brazzaville, the first purpose-built luxury hotel in the country’s burgeoning capital.

As Kempinski’s first property in Africa since the opening of Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City Accra in 2015, this symbolic event heralds the future unveiling of a landmark development that redefines the standards of hospitality in Brazzaville and the broader Central African region. Developed by Saudi Arabia-based Al Othman Holding, the property stands as a testament to architectural ambition, cultural relevance and enduring partnership, introducing the timeless elegance of the Kempinski brand to one of Africa’s most dynamic capital cities.

Last week’s historic ribbon-cutting ceremony featured strong local cultural elements including a local Congolese folkloric troupe, seamlessly blending European elegance with local African culture. The ceremony took place in the presence of distinguished guests, including the President of the Republic of Congo, Denis Sassou N’Guesso, the Prime Minister, Cabinet ministers, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives from Al Othman Real Estate Group and representatives from Kempinski Hotels including Karin Raguin, Chief Human Resources Officer and Manish Nambiar, Senior Vice President Operations, Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific.

"The inauguration of Kempinski Hotel Brazzaville is a proud moment for Al Othman Holding and a testament to our commitment to excellence, innovation, and partnership,” said Mr Abdullah Mohammed Abdullah Al-Othman, Vice Chairman of Al-Othman Holding. “This landmark project reflects our vision to elevate the standards of luxury and hospitality in the Republic of Congo, while celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Brazzaville. We are honoured to collaborate with Kempinski, a brand synonymous with timeless elegance, to create a destination that will not only serve as a beacon of luxury but also contribute to the socio-economic growth of this vibrant city. Together, we are writing a new chapter in Brazzaville’s story—one that embraces both tradition and progress."

Kempinski Hotel Brazzaville embodies the philosophy of “Le nouveau souffle du luxe” — a new wind of luxury — which is sweeping through the Republic of Congo and the wider Central African region. Nestled along Avenue Amílcar Cabral, facing the majestic Congo River, the hotel is poised to become Brazzaville’s foremost address for business, leisure and high-level gatherings, while offering residents and visitors alike a sanctuary of comfort, gastronomy and well-being.

Behind the modern facade, design draws inspiration from the surrounding forests and the timeless flow of the Congo River, blending elements of authentic Congolese heritage with elegant European interior design. The hotel is home to 197 rooms and suites, all offering panoramic views of the city or river. From the entry-level Superior Rooms to spacious Corner Suite and Junior Suites and the resplendent Royal Suite, every space reflects a commitment to fine craftsmanship and detail.

“We are delighted to introduce Kempinski Hotel Brazzaville — the first five-star luxury hotel in the Republic of the Congo — and proud to bring our brand of European-inspired hospitality to this vibrant and culturally rich city. Situated on the banks of the Congo River, our new property offers guests not only luxurious comfort, but a unique gateway to explore the city’s art, music and nature. At Kempinski, we remain committed to excellence in service and creating unforgettable experiences, and we look forward to becoming a trusted partner in the destination’s growth,” states Paul Lonergan, Chief Operating and Asset Management Officer, Kempinski Hotels.

“Our vision for Kempinski Hotel Brazzaville is to redefine hospitality in Central Africa, blending world-class service with a deep respect for local culture and heritage,” said Etienne Joguin, General Manager, Kempinski Hotel Brazzaville. “With our passionate team, we look forward to positioning this property as a flagship destination for business, leisure and cultural discovery in the heart of the Congo.”

Guests and locals alike will find temptation in a collection of culinary options that blend Kempinski’s European heritage with a Congolese identity. La Capitale, an elegant European bistro, features international and local all-day dining while Café de Paris, a refined, Parisian-style cafe, offers light bites and pastries. Other leisure features include Kempinski The Spa, an outdoor swimming pool, fitness center, two tennis courts and a Kids Club.

With more than 870 sqm of dedicated event space, including a Ballroom accommodating 600 guests, the hotel will provide an elegant setting for international conferences, state events and private celebrations. Each of its four meeting rooms — Iroko, Okoumé, Tali and Eben — is named after a noble African wood, rooting the space in the local environment and celebrating the Republic of Congo’s rich ecology.

As the political and administrative heart of the Republic of Congo, Brazzaville is home to embassies, government institutions and an ever-growing number of multinational organizations. While Brazzaville grows as a regional hub for commerce and diplomacy, the unveiling of Kempinski Hotel Brazzaville reflects a shared vision for progress and prestige that contributes to local employment, tourism infrastructure and the city’s international appeal for business and events.

“Last week’s ceremony marks the beginning of a new chapter for the city: one that bridges tradition and innovation with Congolese spirit and Kempinski’s time-honored European hospitality. It is our privilege to be part of this bold vision for Brazzaville,” Joguin concluded.
