Kwandwe Game Reserve's Flagship Lodge Unveils New Design
This founding and flagship lodge, which last year celebrated its 10th anniversary, now features a more classic-contemporary style, though still one of simple elegance that embraces the lodge's splendid setting high up on a steep bank overlooking the Great Fish River.

Retaining the essence of the original character of Great Fish River Lodge, the new colour scheme comprises a calm and natural palette of earthy tones from khaki browns to charcoals greys. Pewter and glass add an effortless yet understated glamour to the furnishings; artefacts such as ostrich eggshells, hides and horns create subtle points of interest and relevance to the lodge's surrounds, whilst natural linens and plenty of texture preserve its simple but sophisticated atmosphere.

New furniture and its clever arrangement throughout the main guest areas provide more options for relaxing in spacious, yet still warm and inviting spaces where guests can quickly feel at home. Large, deep overstuffed sofas featuring clean contemporary lines and simple unadorned slipcovers invite guests to linger and chat in casual, friendly tranquil spaces.

The 9 guest suites also feature the softer colour palette and clean lines creating comfortable, uncluttered rooms. The previous leather and wood headboards have been replaced with deep upholstered ones; the chaise lounge has been replaced with 2 lovely overstuffed linen club chairs and Mungo throws have been introduced to add layers and texture. Fabrics are simple, gorgeous and earthy whilst quality linens with soft embroidery have been used on the down-filled scatters. Room furniture is of stained or raw oak and charcoal duco pieces and feature fold-away glass doors that lead onto private balconies for uninterrupted views of the horizon beyond.

Angus Sholto-Douglas, Managing Director says: “We are delighted with the new look that Tracy Mills of Tracy Mills Interiors has given Great Fish River Lodge. At the end of the day, the show-stopper is the lodge's magnificent setting and the wild animals it is home to. We asked her to luxuriously enhance this experience while being careful not to divert attention away from it, which we feel she has presented beautifully.”

In addition, Great Fish River Lodge has seen the arrival of a new head chef who brings with him a wealth of experience and whose culinary style, fusing classic French cuisines with the traditions and flavours of the Karoo, has already received great reviews from guests. Quintinn van Rensburg trained at the renowned Haute Cabriere in Franschhoek, has run his own restaurant and in 2011 was inducted into the prestigious Confrerie la Chaine des Rotisseurs (an international society devoted to choice dining and the camaraderie of the table) and the Ordre Mondial Des Gourmets Dégustateurs.

Prices start from RAND4110 per person per night sharing on full board basis, including drinks and all safari activities.
