London is a very different city after the meetings finish… especially when you’re travelling on business with the budget to enjoy it properly.
For high-end business travellers, the usual nightlife recommendations just don’t cut it. You need somewhere impressive enough to entertain a client, discreet enough for a private drink, still serving proper food after a late meeting, or exclusive enough to make staying out until 2 am worthwhile.
So, from five-star hotel bars and private members’ clubs to late-night restaurants and casinos, here’s where to spend your evenings in London as a luxury traveller.

Ian Fleming was a regular here in the 1950s, and the St James’s bar is widely credited with helping inspire Bond’s famous taste for martinis and the “shaken, not stirred” line. Today, martinis are prepared tableside from a trolley using frozen glasses, extremely cold spirits and no ice, with Alessandro Palazzi and his team continuing the ritual that made the bar famous.
DUKES is tucked away on St James’s Place, and the bar itself is intimate enough for a proper conversation. DUKES is currently walk-in only, so tables can involve a wait when it’s busy. Dress is smart casual, with sportswear, shorts and ordinary T-shirts not permitted.
If whisky is more your thing, the adjoining Delany Drawing Room stays open until 11 pm and specialises in premium drams and distillery-led tastings.
Best for: discreet client drinks, Bond fans, serious martini drinkers and anyone who appreciates old-school hospitality.

Scarfes Bar feels more like a private gentleman’s club than a hotel bar, with velvet armchairs, antique books, a fireplace and original works by British caricaturist Gerald Scarfe, whose career includes Pink Floyd’s The Wall and cartoons for The Sunday Times and The New Yorker. Live jazz plays daily, making it particularly well suited to client drinks where you actually want to talk.
The drinks justify the visit too. Its current Heroes & Villains menu took more than six months to develop and features 20 cocktails inspired by Scarfe’s artwork. Scarfes ranked No.35 in the UK’s Top 50 Cocktail Bars for 2026 and No.31 in The World’s 50 Best Bars in 2025.
Food is served until midnight, including Wagyu sliders and beef tartare with black truffle, so it also works when meetings run through dinner. Unlike DUKES, tables can be reserved, and Rosewood also offers Scarfes for private dining and exclusive gatherings.
Best for: entertaining clients, live jazz, amazing cocktails and private drinks around Holborn or the City.

The Connaught Bar was ranked No.10 in The World’s 50 Best Bars for 2026 and named the best bar in the UK, so this is one Mayfair institution that still lives up to the hype. Its famous Martini Trolley comes directly to your table, where the drink is prepared using your choice of aromatic bitters.
The Connaught Martini currently costs £37, with a 15% discretionary service charge added to the bill. Tables cannot be reserved, and the bar stays open until 1 am Monday to Saturday, so it works particularly well for one or two people after dinner rather than a large corporate group that needs guaranteed seating.
For something more private, there’s a concealed Champagne Room available exclusively for groups of up to 20.
Best for: impressing one important client, serious cocktail drinkers and sophisticated late-night drinks in Mayfair.

Eagle Bar sits on the roof of The Chancery Rosewood, the luxury hotel occupying Eero Saarinen’s former US Embassy on Grosvenor Square. For businessmen who already know the old Mayfair favourites, that alone makes it somewhere a little different.
There are actually two bars up there. Upper East is an indoor American-style cocktail bar inspired by Manhattan, while Upper West is an outdoor terrace overlooking Grosvenor Square and Hyde Park. Think Champagne, cocktails and skyline views rather than a traditional hotel lounge.
Both are adults-only, and reservations are available. Upper West currently opens Thursday to Saturday from 5 pm until late, while Upper East operates throughout the week.
Best for: overseas clients, summer drinks, newer Mayfair experiences and anyone who has already done Claridge’s and The Connaught several times.

The Aubrey is the one to know when a meeting overruns and you still want a proper dinner rather than room service.
This late-night Japanese izakaya inside Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park serves dinner until 1 am Sunday to Thursday and 2 am on Friday and Saturday. The menu covers Japanese dishes, sushi, sake and cocktails, while the interiors contain more than 250 pieces of Japonistic art.
For client entertaining, the more interesting option is its private omakase setup. The intimate 10-seat bar offers a five-cocktail experience with Japanese-inspired dishes for £198 per person, with private sittings starting from a £1,500 minimum spend. There’s also an 18-person private dining room with its own bar and even a secret entrance available on request.
Best for: late dinners, small executive groups, private entertaining and nights where you want dinner to turn naturally into drinks.

For late, late nights, Les Ambassadeurs is in a different league from an ordinary London casino.
The private Mayfair club has hosted royalty and celebrities for more than a century, and its gaming floor runs from midday until 6 am. Members can play roulette, baccarat, blackjack and Three Card Poker with table service, while several private gaming rooms are available for more discreet play.
The Marble Room even combines five gaming tables with private dining, while the smaller Leopold Room is designed for intimate groups wanting complete privacy. Some rooms have separate entrances and terraces, which gives you a good idea of the clientele the club is built around.
Membership benefits stretch outside the casino too. Les Ambassadeurs can arrange transport, restaurant reservations and accommodation through relationships with properties including The Dorchester, Four Seasons, Mandarin Oriental and 45 Park Lane.
Best for: high-stakes gaming, complete discretion and entertaining international clients well after most of Mayfair has closed.
London can give you some of the best venues around, but what it doesn’t give you is somebody to enjoy the evening with once the meetings are finished.
If the trip is only two or three nights long, spending half of one evening trying to meet somebody can feel like a waste of the little free time you actually have. Professional companionship gives solo travellers another option. A businessman staying in Mayfair, for example, might browse an agency like Blue Monday before arriving and arrange to meet somebody for dinner or cocktails. That way, the social side of the trip can be planned just as easily as the restaurant or hotel.
It’s worth arranging ahead where possible, too. Blue Monday notes that many of its companions work part-time, so availability can be better when dates are organised in advance rather than requested at the last minute.
A business trip can be painfully predictable during the day. Meetings, lunches, emails, taxis, repeat. The evening is where London spices things up…
You can entertain a client somewhere genuinely impressive, disappear into a private members’ club, eat properly at midnight, gamble until dawn, or arrange company for the evening instead of heading back to the hotel alone.
Whatever sort of night you’re in the mood for, there’s probably somewhere doing it very well… you just need to know where to look.
