Lufthansa's 'Virtual Globetrotter' Ready for Takeoff
Lufthansa's latest online game, Virtual Globetrotter (virtualglobetrotter.com), takes travel enthusiasts on a simulated journey around the world. Players test their geography skills by flying an aircraft to specific Lufthansa gateways earning points based on time and accuracy. Points are also accumulated by completing challenges about each destination. Prize winners will be selected at random for each section of the game, including a Virtual Globetrotter grand prize winner who will receive a round-trip Economy Class ticket on Lufthansa to Frankfurt from any of our 18 U.S. gateways, a flight simulator session at the Lufthansa Flight Training Center, and more.

The adventure begins on November 30 with Zone 1 (Germany), which is the first of this five-zone game. Subsequent zones will be unlocked over the course of three weeks, allowing players to journey to regions in Western and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and North and South America. The final zone will be unlocked on December 14.

For Zones 1 through 4, five participants will be selected randomly at the close of each zone to win prize packages that include Lufthansa-themed travel backpacks and totes, Lonely Planet Travel Guides, Brookstone Wheeled Suitcases, a GoPro 3+ and more. To be eligible, a player must “fly” to all destinations within the zone once it is unlocked and before the following zone is unlocked. Players who complete all five zones during the sweepstakes period will be entered to win one of three prize packages, including the grand prize trip to Frankfurt with a flight simulator experience.

Once a player “lands” at a specified gateway, they can complete a challenge to earn additional points and learn fun facts about the destination. A virtual travel journal tracks a player's progress and saves achievement badges that can be shared on social media. The virtual photo album collects destination images that can also be shared or saved.

Before a player starts a new zone, they'll be provided with some background on Lufthansa products and services, such as the Lufthansa Travel Guide. This multimedia guide offers up-to-the-minute information about local events, tours, restaurants, and more, including recommendations from Lufthansa crew members. An additional element of the Virtual Globetrotter game is a flight simulator where players navigate a plane through the sky, collecting objects for points while trying not to cause turbulence.

The Virtual Globetrotter game and sweepstakes are open to residents of the U.S. and the game is optimized for multiple platforms, including tablet and mobile.
