Color plays a crucial role in how travelers choose and book vacations, as it directly influences mood, behavior, and purchasing decisions. In fact, research from the International Journal of Tourism Research shows that roughly 75% of tourists rely on visual elements, especially color, when selecting hospitality experiences. Combined with the current shift toward maximalist design, it’s evident that consumers are moving away from muted neutrals and gravitating toward bold, vibrant aesthetics.
Carlisle Bay Antigua is one of the resorts prioritizing color through every facet of the guest experience, from the overall design concept to its culinary offerings on property. Offering guests more than just a place to unwind in the Caribbean, the resort captures the island of Antigua’s rich palette, personality and energy in an immersive way.
Carlisle Bay Antigua is a resort where the island of Antigua’s character comes through not just in the views, but in what visitors' taste, touch and feel. Set along a stretch of turquoise water and backed by lush green hills, the resort reflects its Antiguan surroundings in its design, culinary offerings, and atmosphere.
THE DESIGN
Carlisle Bay’s aesthetic is simple and balanced with soft interiors and natural woods paired with brighter touches from the landscape, including bougainvillea pink, mango gold and the shifting blues of the sea. It’s design-led, without being overstated, with spaces feeling airy and comfortable, allowing the setting to stand out. Everything is framed to draw the outside in, creating a seamless connection between indoors and outdoors.
In addition to the current aesthetic, Carlisle Bay is undergoing an exciting renovation led by acclaimed designer Miminat Shodeinde of Miminat Designs. The renovation and refurbishment, which include the Garden Suites, Ocean Suites, Beach Suites and Bay Suites, all of which accommodate 2 guests, along with the resort’s public spaces aim to elevate the resort's luxury concept while honoring Antigua's rich heritage and beauty. Shodeinde's vision combines contemporary design with local influences, featuring bespoke furniture, locally sourced artwork, and a carefully curated palette of materials that reflect the island's white and golden sands and lush rainforest, offering guests an immersive and authentic Antiguan experience.
In total, Carlisle Bay features 87 ocean facing suites, each with a private balcony or terrace and many leading directly onto the beach, ensuring guests have convenient access to Antigua’s colorful shores.
THE FOOD
The color carries into the food, where local dishes like slow-simmered Goat Water with Antiguan spices capture the spirit of Carlisle Bay. Rich, layered, and deeply rooted in tradition, telling the story of the island with every bite, balanced by coconut fried dumplings that add texture and a touch of sweetness. Paired with the hotel’s signature Antiguan Rum Punch, bringing citrus, spice, and depth, it becomes more than a meal; it’s a snapshot of the Caribbean, shaped by the same creativity that thrives behind the scenes, where chefs and mixologists infuse personality and precision into every detail. From the careful toasting of spices to the precision of perfectly mixed cocktails, there’s an artistry that elevates the experience while staying true to its roots: extending to thoughtful sourcing, from locally grown Black Pineapple transformed into golden, fragrant jam to fresh-caught fish brightened with citrus and herbs.
Dining options provide a diverse and high-quality experience with four distinctive restaurants and multiple bars, including Indigo on the Beach, an open-air, beachfront Mediterranean-Caribbean restaurant in a relaxed, ‘feet-in-the-sand’ setting. East provides a refined, evening-only dining option specializing in Japanese, Thai, and Indonesian cuisine, known for dishes like sushi, seafood, and richly flavored Asian specialties. Ottimo! is a more casual, family-friendly atmosphere with authentic Italian cuisine served poolside, such as wood-fired pizzas, pastas, antipasti, and gelato, and is often chosen for relaxed lunches or informal dinners. For a distinctly Caribbean experience, The Jetty Grill is an adult-only, beachfront restaurant located at the edge of the bay. It focuses on grilled meats, fresh local seafood, and simple, flavorful dishes served in a laid-back yet scenic setting, often enhanced by sunset views and occasional live music or themed evenings like fire pit nights.
THE SURROUNDINGS
Nature is always close, with guests waking to the sound of waves and swaying palm trees, spending days moving between sea and shore, and gathering in the evening along the curve of the bay as the sky deepens from coral to indigo. It’s here that the island’s color feels most alive.
Experiences that add further color to guest’s stay are the wide range of activities for relaxation, activity, and entertainment, including non-motorized water sports such as kayaking, paddleboarding, sailing, and snorkeling on a private white-sand beach. Beyond the resort, guests are encouraged to discover Antigua’s rich natural and cultural landscape through curated off-property hiking experiences along scenic trails. For those eager to engage with the island’s marine life, guests can interact with free-roaming southern stingrays while learning more from knowledgeable Antiguan guides or partake in daily scuba diving excursions. For thrill-seekers, Carlisle Bay offers easy access to adventure, where guests can try kiteboarding and kitesurfing lessons for all skill levels, ziplining through Antigua’s lush and vibrant rainforest, and horseback riding.
