Majestic Barriere Named Hotel Partner for Cannes Film Festival
The five-star hotel at 10, La Croisette is located in the immediate vicinity of the Palais des Festivals. As a result, the luxury hotel in Cannes has been fully booked for several months for the festival period. It is expecting thousands of festival goers, mostly from the world of cinema, the media and, as well, the luxury industry, which has been adding to its number of show rooms over the past few years so as to link its brands with the most glamorous people on the planet.

A galaxy of stars
Last year, Majestic Barrière welcomed Marion Cotillard, Guillaume Canet, Johnny Depp, Vanessa Paradis and Will Smith among others… Talents to be added to the long list of VIP’s who, for more than sixty years, have enjoyed the hospitality of the hotel. There are emotional memories of Romy Schneider who, only just out of adolescence and after the success of Sissi, captivated the hotel personnel by her youth and beauty. After the Empress of Austria, the most famous Viking in the history of cinema - Kirk Douglas - was a guest at the hotel in the 60’s.

Many other Hollywood giants have stood out in the history of the hotel: the statuesque Jane Mansfield, the irresistible Paul Newman who, invited at the last minute, took over the private apartments of Lucien Barrière as there were no vacant rooms, Robert de Niro, president of the jury 2011 who, when he first came at the beginning of the 70’s was still at the dawn of a superb career, the very amusing Jerry Lewis who liked the chef’s own smoked salmon so much that he did not want to eat anything else for the whole of his stay.

We can mention, as well, Dustin Hoffman, Jack Nicholson, Jessica Lange, Morgan Freeman, Chris Tucker, Francis Ford Coppola (in 1996, the year he was President), Gong Li, Andy Mac Dowell and Jeff Goldblum, who received a delivery of a hundred red roses one day from an anonymous fan!

The French cinema has, equally, its regulars at Majestic Barrière. Alain Delon, Michèle Morgan, Catherine Deneuve, Monica Bellucci, Elsa Zylberstein, Michèle Laroque, and Lætitia Casta: at some time, they have all experienced the luxury and professionalism of the Cannes palace. Like Gérard Depardieu! He came for the first time in 1992, as president of the jury. He was seen here again in 2009. This time as a wine grower! In fact, the Castelroussin had chosen Fouquet’s Cannes, one of the two restaurants at the hotel, to present his new wine to the press, marking the occasion by sharing a true gourmet moment with Dominique Desseigne, Chairman-Managing Director of Lucien Barrière, and Bertrand Schmitt, head chef. From this memorable meeting, a remarkable dish remains: Roast Sea Bass with Green Asparagus, Morilles Fricassee, and Cappuccino Brut Princesse Depardieu. It still has pride of place on the restaurant menu!
