Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve Launches Artist In-Residence
Guests are invited to celebrate the region’s arts scene with the exclusive opportunity to explore the work of local Balinese artists with a mini exhibition, workshop and cocktail party.

The first installment of the rotating on-property Artist In-Residence program is Balinese traditional Batuan painter, Made Griyawan. Guests have the rare opportunity to witness the Batuan master artist in action and discover the emotional journey behind his art in the mini art exhibition that will be showcased at Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve along with a once in a lifetime art workshop experience.

One of the finest practitioners of the Batuan School of Balinese traditional painting, Griyawan’s paintings pulsate with life and reflect his unparalleled creativity to develop innovate storylines that challenge Balinese convention. Batuan is a region steeped with history and rich with artists who play a vital role in performing the rituals of the state. Due to their spiritual significance, Batuan paintings are held with special regard and depict the ever evolving social and political climate that has molded the island. The paintings reflect a melting pot of foreign influences, coupled with a unique Balinese flare.

Guests can discover the story behind the highly esteemed Batuan paintings firsthand with Made Griyawan at an intimate cocktail party in the resort’s Library.
