Mohegan Sun Celebrates 20th Anniversary with 50+ Star-Studded Events

The gaming and entertainment complex, founded by the Mohegan Tribe, is marking its 20th Anniversary with a month-long celebration featuring a lineup of more than 50 concerts, comedy specials and celebrity events this October.

The Journey

In 1996, Mohegan Sun opened along the banks of the Thames River in Uncasville, Connecticut with 126 table games and 2,500 slot machines. Today, Mohegan Sun boasts 325 table games and more than 5,100 slot machines spread throughout 344,000 square feet, with three casinos under the same roof; Casino of the Earth (opened in 1996), Sky (opened in 2001) and Wind (opened in 2008).

Guests from around the world have walked through the property's four specially designed entrances, symbolizing the importance of the four seasons in the Mohegan tradition. While Mohegan Sun did not have a hotel on property for the initial opening, it has since grown into a 185-acre resort destination with a total of 1,200 rooms. The brand is currently slated to unveil the 400-room, $130 million renovation in its all-new Earth Tower this fall. Additionally, this summer, Mohegan Sun announced a two year $50 million renovation project for the property's existing Sky Tower hotel.

In addition to featuring some of New England's finest resort accommodations, the brand's commitment to continuously provide new and exciting offerings that exceed guests' expectations has translated into 44 dining restaurants, bars and lounges; 35 retail shops; a lavish spa; a 10,000 square-foot indoor pool with a 17,500 square-foot sun terrace; an 18-hole golf course; and three award-winning entertainment venues. Mohegan Sun is also first in the United States to offer the blackjack Hybrid Fusion games, which enable guests to participate in four of their favorite games at once.

Mohegan Sun's award-winning Arena first opened in 2001 with special performances by Tim McGraw, Gloria Estefan and Tony Bennet, and has been hosting top headlining concerts and premier sporting events ever since. Today, the venue is the world's highest grossing Arena of its size with more than ten million guests since the opening, and was recently named the 2016 “Arena of the Year” at the ACM Awards in Las Vegas.

The 20th Anniversary Milestone

To kick off the brand's much-anticipated anniversary celebration, Mohegan Sun unveiled a five-minute long 360 VR video highlighting its 20 years long journey. The video provides a virtual glimpse inside Mohegan Sun, from the breathtaking lobby, to its action-packed gaming areas, gastronomic empire and electrifying nightlife.



Next, to commemorate the brand's 20th Anniversary, Mohegan Sun has planned its biggest celebration ever – a lineup of more than 50 celebrity-studded events featuring Tim McGraw, Bruno Mars, Kevin Hart, Fergie, LL Cool J, Chrissy Teigen, Sia, Carrie Underwood and more scheduled throughout the month of October.

An exclusive celebration will take place on the weekend of Friday, October 14th featuring Kevin Hart's 20th Anniversary Comedy All-Star Gala starring Sara Silverman, Dave Attell, Margaret Cho and more. The festivities will continue on Saturday, October 15th with Fergie performing in the Mohegan Sun Arena followed by a special Ballroom Red Carpet After Party featuring Chrissy Teigen, Robin Thicke, LL Cool J, Brody Jenner and more A-list guests.

As part of Mohegan Sun's epic 20th Anniversary celebration, resort guests can look forward to a month full of unique Special Edition entertainment featuring stars from The Young & the Restless; Jojo Fletcher from the latest season of The Bachelorette; Vicki Gunvalson, Teresa Giudice, Melissa Gorga and Ramona Singer from Bravo TV's Real Housewives; Country Pop singer and reality TV star, Jessie James Decker and Clive Standen of Vikings.
