Monastero Santa Rosa on the Amalfi Coast Launches New Pompeii Experience

This summer, Monastero Santa Rosa Hotel & Spa will launch a new ‘Pompeii Experience’ allowing guests to explore the ancient city of Pompeii in style, paired with a stay at the iconic Amalfi Coast historical hotspot.

The Pompeii Package will allow guests of Monastero the chance to explore Pompeii for the day with a private driver, who will take them on a one-hour scenic drive through local villages, overlooking the stunning coastal scenery. The day begins with a private tour of the ruins of the ancient city of Pompeii, where visitors can discover the latest findings excavated at the site including a mural and a Roman chariot all unearthed in 2020. These recent discoveries have brought the excavation of the site back to life, making this tourist hotspot more sought-after than ever. This new Pompeii Package will allow hotel guests to tour this fascinating site away from the crowds and at their own pace.

After a morning discovering Pompeii’s fascinating past, guests will wind down over lunch at local winery Bosco de’ Medici, which shares the land with the ruins of Pompeii. Here, guests can taste the sustainable and biodynamic wine and enjoy a meal of locally sourced ingredients with exceptional views out to Il Parco Nazionale del Vesuvio.

The Pompeii theme continues back at the hotel, where guests can relax after a busy day on the road at Monastero Santa Rosa’s award-winning spa. Here, they will have the choice of either a one-hour Vesuvian Stone Massage or a Volcanic Clay Body Wrap. Depending on the time of year, guests can choose to indulge in their exclusive Pompeii treatment in either the Treatment Garden or indoor Spa Suite, situated within the original 17th century vaulted ceilings and rustic stone walls of the hotel. There is also a domed herbal steam room, an ice fountain to boost circulation, a natural rock sauna and hydrotherapy pool for guests to enjoy.

The Pompeii Package finishes with a private three-course dinner at Il Refettorio curated by the hotel’s Michelin-starred chef, Christoph Bob, designed to recreate the cuisine eaten by the ancient Romans and Greeks during their time living in the Pompeii region. The menu will be paired with wines grown in the Vesuvian soil and will feature dishes such as: datteri con pane dolce e miele (dates with sweet bread and honey), pane libum de Roma Antica con anti pasti (‘libum bread’ of Ancient Rome with anti pasti) and gnocchi di grano con ragu di pesce (grain gnocchi with fish ragout), among others. Chef Bob extensively researched the dishes when it came to this menu, taking into account various facts surrounding this historical time period, such as the fact that there were no tomatoes in Italy at the time and the use of grains in dishes.
