Lone Mountain Ranch is proud to announce the opening of its newest addition: The Trapper’s Den, an exquisitely restored 1915 cabin that ‘trappers’ once relied on as a base for hunting, and now offering a distinguished retreat for cigar enthusiasts and whiskey connoisseurs. Nestled just steps away from the luxury guest ranch’s exclusive member’s club Auric Room 1915, this intimate space sits against the breathtaking backdrop of Montana’s wild landscape.
Originally constructed in 1915 in the remote Crazy Mountains of Montana — the same year that the Lone Mountain Ranch was homestead as a cattle ranch and discovered by chance by Lone Mountain Ranch’s founders – The Trapper’s Den provided shelter for trappers braving the wilderness in pursuit of lucrative pelts. Today, the cabin has been meticulously restored and moved to its new home in Big Sky at Lone Mountain Ranch.
Paul Makarechian, Co-Founder and CEO of Lone Mountain Ranch, recalls the serendipitous discovery of the cabin, “During a family road trip through Montana, I stumbled upon this very cabin in the backyard of a descendant of its original owner, still in pristine condition. With a ‘For Sale’ sign out front, I seized the opportunity, negotiated a price, and transported the cabin back to the ranch to give it new life. We’re thrilled to continue expanding our guests’ experiences, and The Trapper’s Den is quickly becoming a beloved hideaway for guests and Auric Room members.”
Inside, guests will find rich wood interiors, cozy seating, and a vinyl record player with a curated music library to set the tone. A selection of premium cigars and fine whiskeys, sourced from around the world, is available to indulge the senses. Signature cigars include Romeo y Julieta Reserva Real, Padron 3000 Natura, Undercrown Shade, El Profesor, Davidoff Winston Churchill The Later Hour, LFD La Flor Dominicana Andalusian Bull, and Drew Estate Liga Privada No. 9. Tasting notes range from leather, salt, and nutmeg pepper, to cedar, chocolate, and citrus. Members of the Auric Room can enjoy the added benefit of personalized humidors, crafted from repurposed ammunition cans, offering a unique touch to each visit.
The Trapper’s Den accommodates up to eight guests indoors, while a wraparound deck offers space for up to 20, with sweeping views of the ranch’s rugged landscape and two outdoor fireplaces. Perfect for quiet reflection or lively social gatherings, The Trapper’s Den is a special space for memorable Montana moments. Vintage artifacts that members of the Lone Mountain Ranch team have sourced from around the country, including antique trapping sets, bison hides, and early 20th-century treasures as a nod to when the ranch was homesteaded, infuse the space with a rich historical ambiance. Classic games like chess, backgammon, and poker invite guests to unwind in a setting that fosters camaraderie and relaxation.
Enhancing the experience, the Trapper’s Den features a curated selection of fine wines, spirits, and whiskeys from the acclaimed Horn & Cantle saloon, which was recently nominated for a 2024 James Beard Award.
The Trapper’s Den will open April 2025. Access is exclusive to adult (21+) guests of Lone Mountain Ranch and members of the Auric Room, ensuring a private and intimate environment. For more information on The Trapper’s Den and how to make reservations, visit www.lonemountainranch.com.
