The results of the awards, which were taken from the votes of nearly 26,000 readers of the magazine, who ranked each destination against an 'index of satisfaction', reveals that the popularity of Greece holidays is on the rise following a turbulent year for Greece, which saw social and political problems affect their popular travel industry.

Greek island holidays, including Kefalonia holidays have grown in popularity in the last few years, with many travel companies and airlines offering cut-price holidays to a number of the 227 inhabited islands. But Greece scored well as a holiday destination in general, with two of the country's top hotels, the Mykonos Grand Hotel & Resort and the Elounda Mare ranking 15th and 17th place in the top 20 finalists of the Best European Resort.
