The Charleston Place, a newly independent landmark hotel in Charleston’s historic district, is inviting Charlestonians to make the most of the “Dog Days of Summer” with a dog-friendly afternoon during Second Sunday on King Street, a cabana-filled courtyard filled with a selection of cool treats throughout the month of August, and the introduction of a new in-room pet dining menu.
On Sunday, August 14, The Charleston Place will transform its Market Street Circle into a dog-friendly haven, filled with cooling amenities and activities. The hotel has partnered with the Charleston Animal Society to host an on-site Dog Adoption during the event from 12-5pm, where locals and guests alike will have the opportunity to meet and bond with furry friends, and approved adopters can even bring home a new member of the family that day. In addition to adoption opportunities, The Charleston Place will offer bandana-making with Twee Birds, and pet portrait sessions with acclaimed pet portraitist Mary Morris.
Throughout the month of August, passersby can delight in The Charleston Place’s new chic custom-made cabanas for humans and mini-cabanas featuring West Elm dog beds for man’s best friend in the hotel’s light-filled courtyard. A new “Cool Down Concierge” will be stationed daily in courtyard from 10am-5pm with complimentary flavored waters, cool towels, misters, Coola sunscreen, sunglass cleaning cloths, and even chilled dog treats, lovingly made in-house by The Charleston Place team.
Pet photo sessions from notable pet and wedding photographer Dana Cubbage will also be available at the hotel’s Market Street Circle on Saturday, August 13 from 9am – 12pm. Twenty-minute photo sessions are available for $250 and each include five digital images and a complimentary The Charleston Place pet bandana.
“At The Charleston Place, we consider pets a part of the family and we’re proud to welcome furry friends of all shapes and sizes to the hotel,” said Bob Megargle, Managing Director, The Charleston Place. “We feel fortunate to have the opportunity to partner with the Charleston Animal Shelter to help dogs to find homes, as well as give locals something special to look forward to throughout this month, to help beat the heat.”
To further cater to these four-legged friends, The Charleston Place has introduced a new in-room pet dining menu, featuring menu items such as roasted chicken with Carolina Gold rice. Guests can book the new “Pet in Residence” package that includes pet-friendly welcome amenities, use of a dog bed, bowls, leash and collar during the stay, and one pet sitting or pet walking session with Charleston Dog Walkers.
