New Tauck Itinerary Explores New York's Lakes, Adirondacks & Hudson Valley

New Tauck Itinerary Explores New York's Lakes, Adirondacks & Hudson Valley
Tauck will offer departures of “The Hudson Valley” from June through October, with prices for the 10-day itinerary from $4,490 per person (double occupancy, plus air).

Tauck guests will begin their journey with guided sightseeing and an overnight stay in Montreal, Canada, before heading south and crossing the U.S.-Canadian border into New York. Over the next three days, guests will experience Lake Placid and the U.S. Olympic Training Center there, Blue Mountain Lake in the Adirondack Mountains (with a visit to the renowned Adirondack Museum) and Lake George, where they'll enjoy an overnight stay at a classic Adirondack-style resort overlooking the lake.

Guests will then travel into New York's historic Hudson Valley, which was recently highlighted by National Geographic Traveler magazine as one of their “Best Trips” destinations for 2013. Here they'll visit the popular Gigi Market, known for its local produce and gourmet foods, and meet with a farmer at the forefront of the sustainable farming movement. They'll also visit the lifelong home of Franklin D. Roosevelt at Hyde Park, spend time in the quaint village of Rhinebeck, and tour stately Boscobel Mansion and the venerable U.S. Military Academy at West Point. The itinerary concludes with a two-night hotel stay in New York City, where Tauck guests will enjoy a guided city tour, views from the “Top of the Rock” high above Rockefeller Center, and a poignant discussion on the events of 9/11 and its aftermath with a NYPD detective.

CONNECTING WITH FIVE CENTURIES OF HISTORY
“The Hudson Valley and upstate New York are being rediscovered by travelers, and with good reason,” said Tauck CEO Dan Mahar. “They've influenced our history, art and culture for hundreds of years, and our new itinerary actually visits sites connected to each of the last five centuries.” Montreal was founded in 1642, noted Mahar, West Point has been a military installation since 1778, and Boscobel Mansion was completed in the 1800s. More recently, Roosevelt's Hyde Park home served as his “summer White House” during his presidency in the 1930s and 1940s, and the impacts of the 2001 9/11 attacks on Manhattan continue to be felt today.

The region's past is also beautifully reflected in three historic hotel properties featured on the new Tauck itinerary. Nights 2 and 3 are spent at the Mirror Lake Inn Resort & Spa in Lake Placid. Originally built in 1883 as a private home, it was later opened to guests in 1924. Today, the inn's mahogany accents, antique stained-glass windows and 29 fireplaces help the property retain an Old World ambiance. The Sagamore Inn, where Tauck guests will spend Night 4 of their journey, overlooks Lake George and dates back to 1883. The property is listed in the National Register of Historic Places, and it is a member of Historic Hotels of America. And the Mohonk Mountain House (a National Historic Landmark and a Historic Hotels of America property) has hosted five U.S. Presidents since its launch in 1869. While the three properties recall the charm of a bygone era, each offers the latest amenities and exemplary service, and all have received honors from both Travel + Leisure and Conde Nast Traveler magazines.

Tauck guests traveling on “The Hudson Valley” will also be treated to several of Tauck's “Stories by Ken Burns” video narratives that will provide the acclaimed filmmaker's perspectives on the history and culture of areas included in the new itinerary. The vignettes, part of Tauck's “Ken Burns American Journeys” partnership, will explore the history of the U.S.-Canadian border and its role during Prohibition and the Underground Railroad era, the Roosevelts (the subject of a new Burns documentary premiering in 2014), and the influence of New York City on Burns's life and films.

Like all Tauck journeys, “The Hudson Valley” is fully inclusive with all sightseeing, admission to all attractions, airport transfers, luggage handling, most meals and gratuities, and much more included in the price.
