North America’s First LIV Golf League Tournament of 2023 at Mayakoba’s El Camaleon Golf Course

Mayakoba, a 620-acre luxury oceanfront resort and residential destination in Mexico’s Riviera Maya, has announced a pioneering new partnership with LIV Golf. The resort, and its acclaimed golf course, El Camaleón, will be the first stop of the season in North America and LIV Golf League’s first ever tournament in Latin America, as the ground-breaking professional golf league begins play in February 2023. “LIV Golf Mayakoba” is currently scheduled to take place on February 24-26, 2023, with a Pro-Am tournament on February 23.

The announcement comes on the heels of the 16th anniversary of the PGA TOUR’s flagship event in Mexico, the World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba (formerly the Mayakoba Golf Classic), which was the first official event on the PGA TOUR schedule outside of the United States and Canada.

El Camaleón was designed by golf legend and LIV Golf CEO and Commissioner, Greg Norman, and is ranked as one of the top courses in Mexico by Golf Digest and one of the favourite destinations for professional players. Weaving through the distinct ecosystems of Mayakoba, including tropical jungle, dense mangroves, freshwater canals, and pristine Riviera Maya oceanfront, El Camaleón is considered one of the most diverse golf courses in the world.

In addition to El Camaleón, Mayakoba boasts four meaningfully placed luxury hotels – Andaz Mayakoba, Banyan Tree Mayakoba, Fairmont Mayakoba and Rosewood Mayakoba – as well as three collections of private residences, including Rosewood Residences Mayakoba, Fairmont Heritage Place Mayakoba, and The Reserve. The sought-after oceanfront destination offers an abundance of lifestyle experiences including four acclaimed spas, more than 25 restaurants with eclectic cuisines, array of recreational pursuits through Mayakoba Experiences, the Dive and Water Sports Center and Mayakoba Dive School, and El Pueblito, a village square that serves as an event space modeled after the historic colonial plazas of Mexico.

This event is made possible through a strategic alliance with Ciudad Mayakoba, the first comprehensive and sustainable master planned community in the Riviera Maya. Mayakoba Country Club, a new residential development located within Ciudad Mayakoba, is currently under construction and will bring further offerings to the destination, including a new golf course designed by renowned Spanish golfer and LIV Golf star, Sergio Garcia, slated to debut in 2024, as well as wellness-oriented amenities, extensive green space and a Beach Club.
