A Stay at Ocean Drive Talamanca Hotel in Ibiza

An OD Hotels Group creation, Ocean Drive Talamanca is a luxury beachfront 5-star boutique hotel set against the backdrop of the picturesque Talamanca Bay, just a quick fifteen minute walk from the heart of Ibiza Town. It’s close to one of the most glamorous areas of the island, with luxury retailers and exclusive restaurants peppering the beachfront all the way to the port, without being too showy and more on the residential side.

But don’t be fooled by the area’s lively character, for Ocean Drive Talamanca is a modern, sleek, and peaceful oasis just far enough from the life of the party that you’ll be able to choose whether to have a relaxing vacation, or keep the fiesta going until the morning at one of the nearby world-renowned clubs.

Adding a prized location to the OD Group portfolio, Ocean Drive Talamanca has spectacular views over both the Mediterranean Sea and the old town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A 2022 Traveler's Choice, it was recently voted among the 10% of the best hotels in the world.

A design-focused boutique hotel, it brings together elegant architecture and sleek lines for an overall peaceful, refined feel that is a welcome change from the island’s chaotic and dynamic life. It has 117 rooms and suites, three different swimming pools and a large solarium area, as well as a light and spacious reception area should you wish to get some work or reading done indoors, and a rooftop terrace with amazing views of the bay.

The Sky Bar on the terrace was already closed for the season when I visited, but during the summer, it’s the perfect spot to enjoy a drink or two while taking in both the 360 views ––over Dalt Vila, Formentera, the bay of Talamanca and the mountains–– and the sunshine from the private plunge pool.

Rooms

All the rooms face the sea and have an incredible view, as well as a light and airy feel and a distinctive clean charm. Their mix of contemporary designer furniture and inviting, calm mood is the work of a collaboration between Víctor Rahola’s architecture studio and the interior designer Mayte Matutes.

I stayed in the Deluxe Room, a Mediterranean style offering spanning 35m2 and opening up into a little balcony with a great view, and between the balcony table, the reclining chair, and the desk next to the bed, when it came to sitting down to do a little bit of work I was truly spoiled for choice.

And for those visiting Ibiza less for work, and more for –ahem– some debaucherous fun, my complimentary water bottle on arrival was placed on the in-room mini-fridge, next to a box filled with goodies like condoms, lube, a mini vibrator, and dados eroticos. How do you say “welcome to Ibiza” in Spanish?

For the ultimate luxury getaway, Ocean Drive Talamanca also has one-of-a-kind suites with two bedrooms, a spectacular 120m2 rooftop terrace, and a private swimming pool.

Food

During the high season, the Sky Bar serves gourmet breakfasts for the suites, and dinner for all guests. Any other time, meals are served in the large dining area between the lobby and the outdoor pools, with helpful and attentive service throughout ––Monica, the waitress who took care of me on my first night, was especially delightful.

From their dinner à la carte menu, I sampled the croquetas de cecina from Valle del Esla as a starter, a leek and air-dried beef variety of the traditional Spanish dish cooked with heaps of butter and a rich bechamel sauce. Truly delicious. Then, I tried the hamburguesa, a veggie burger with vegan “cheddar” and “bacon,” which was a little dry and not as great as the croquettes, but that might have been my fault ––good cheese and meat substitutes are hard to find, and I should have known that!

Breakfast is served until 12pm (a lifesaver and something that more hotels should get up to speed with!) and consists of a pretty incredible buffet spread of sweet and savory, hearty and indulgent, simple and elaborate foods to start your day off on the right track. The cakes and pastries were so inviting, I couldn’t stop myself from having several of them, along with some fruits, yogurts, and berries, but eggs and classic fry-ups were also available to order.
