Orient-Express Enhances Luxury Travel Experiences in Peru
The latest jewel in the Orient-Express South American collection represents the culmination of a historic restoration project which has created a new landmark, the Palacio Nazarenas in Cuzco, a former 16th century convent which is now enjoying a magnificent renaissance as a luxury all-suite hotel opening on June 15th this year.

The immaculate restoration of Palacio Nazarenas which was conducted in association with Peru's National Institute of Culture, unveils a contemporary interpretation of Cuzco's ancient culture combined with the trappings of modern luxury, and the latest in a portfolio of exceptional Orient-Express travel experiences in the world's most extraordinary, once-in-a-lifetime destinations.

Also, located in Cuzco, Orient-Express' Hotel Monasterio which is renowned for its unique blend of Spanish and Inca cultures is the ideal hotel from which to discover this magical city. High in the Andes, at 3,000 metres above sea level, Hotel Monasterio is a former monastery and national monument dating from 1592. The hotel combines its centuries-old charm and ambience with luxury hotel service, inspired restaurants and rooms and suites offering views over the colourful rooftops of Cuzco or the property's inner courtyards.

Cuzco is surrounded by the wonders of nature and impressive architectural ruins. Guests can visit the Main Square, where you can purchase carefully made crafts and appreciate the curious and charming design of the stone walkways and streets, as well as the beautiful arcades.

Cuzco is also one of the stops for adventurers enjoying the experience on the Hiram Bingham luxury train up to one of the Great Wonders of the World, the breathtaking mountaintop citadel of Machu Picchu at 2,350 metres above sea level.

One of the world's highest and most scenic railways, the Hiram Bingham train is the most luxurious way to journey between Cuzco and Machu Picchu. The carriages are painted a distinctive blue and gold and the interiors are luxurious, warm and inviting with elegant decoration in the style of 1920's Pullman trains.

The only hotel next to the citadel, Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge is the perfect place to relax and unwind in the shadow of one of the great lost treasures of the Inca Empire. It offers guests exceptionally easy access to the world famous ruins in early morning and late afternoon, when most day visitors have left.

For those looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life, Hotel Rio Sagrado is set on the banks of the rushing Urubamba River, providing the perfect environment in which to relax and unwind. Of particular note is the hotel's Yoga and Spa Journey package which helps guests gain deep rest and learn natural effective stress management techniques for day-to-day life. The package begins with a personal trainer who will guide guests through one hour of yoga. Afterwards, guests head to Spa Mayu Wilka (meaning “Sacred River” in the local Quechua language) where a 90 minute exfoliation and massage session awaits, followed by a one hour session of reflexology. Finally, guests can boost energy again with a light lunch on the spa terrace, overlooking the beautiful hotel gardens.

Orient-Express also operates a hotel in one of Lima's most fashionable areas. The Miraflores Park Hotel allows guests to indulge in the heart of all that's great about this capital city. The hotel is renowned for its beautiful garden location beside the Pacific Ocean and breathtaking views out to sea. Colonial architecture, superb museums with Inca gold and Pre-Columbian antiquities, and glamorous shops, bars and restaurants are all just moments from the hotel.
