Pairing Your Lifestyle to a Bahamian Location

Pairing Your Lifestyle to a Bahamian Location

The Bahamas has become a booming tourism market, attracting more than four million visitors in four months. With the creation of resorts, developments, and ultra-luxury amenities, The Bahamas is seeing tremendous opportunity for growth alongside a shift in international buyers looking toward properties that represent resort-style, modern living at an attractive yet luxury price point. Altogether, The Bahamas comprises more than 700 cays and islands, each exhibiting unique lifestyles with their own distinct characteristics.

According to Tim Rodland of Rodland Real Estate, a luxury real estate brokerage in The Bahamas that specializes in buying/selling private islands and luxury properties cites the following when looking at the respective islands in The Bahamas:

Nassau/New Providence

  • Nassau/New Providence is the center of industry and commerce, combining the elegance of the old world with modern features. Those on the island live a faster-paced life and accessibility to resorts, schools, some of which are internationally accredited, and gated communities.
  • The island’s main Bahamian festival, Junkanoo, is celebrated year-round and highlights history, arts, music and dance. Participants form groups for the parade, dressed in costumes that align with the respective theme.

Exuma

  • The Exuma Island Chain, made of sapphire blue waters, consists of Great Exuma, Little Exuma, and the Exuma Cays, home to Big Major Cay, which is known for the world’s swimming pigs.
  • Thunderball Grotto, an underwater cay, attracts those wanting to snorkel, dive and view exotic marine life. Another landmark, Land & Sea Park, features more than 130,000 acres of aquamarine waters, deserted cays and coral reefs.

Eleuthera

  • Eleuthera represents the quintessential island life with upscale dining, secluded beaches and opportunities to explore. It is comprised of pineapple farms, toured by many, and locals celebrate those who harvest the pineapples at its yearly festival.
  • One of the island's main attractions, Glass Window Bridge, is the narrowest point in Eleuthera where individuals can see the rich blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Bight of Eleuthera on the other.

The Abacos

  • The Abacos, a chain of islands and cays that span 120 miles, is the boating capital of The Bahamas. Its location provides easy access to those from South Florida and the Carolinas.
  • The island hosts Regattas in The Abacos, a series of races for both sailboats and powerboats along the chain of islands.

Berry Islands

  • The Billfish Capital of The Bahamas, Berry Islands, is comprised of 30 cays, some of which include Chub Cay, CocoCay and Little Whale Cay. It is the prime destination for boating and fishing. Due to its proximity to the U.S., it is convenient for those traveling by boat to The Bahamas in only a few hours.
  • Tourists visit Hoffman’s Cay Blue Hole; it is 600 feet wide and has a 20-foot hanging cliff.
