The city also recently extended its contract to host Robert Redford's Sundance Film Festival through 2026, cementing its place as a world-class destination for arts and culture.

The scheduled 2013-14 resort opening dates are Saturday, Nov. 23 at Park City Mountain Resort; Friday, Nov. 29 at Canyons Resort and Saturday, Dec. 7 at Deer Valley Resort.

Ski Resort and Olympic Park updates:

Park City Mountain Resort celebrates its 50th anniversary during 2013-14. All winter, the resort will celebrate a half century of skiing, snowboarding and a close connection with one of North America's great ski towns. The first-ever U.S. Olympic Freeskiing team will be announced at the resort in January 2014, following the team's final qualification event – the Visa U.S. Grand Prix – for both halfpipe and slopestyle disciplines in preparation for the Sochi 2014 games. www.parkcitymountain.com

Deer Valley Resort will host the Visa Freestyle Ski International World Cup in its 2002 Olympic Winter Games venue, Jan. 8-11, 2014. This will serve as a qualifier for the 2014 Olympic Mogul and Aerial teams. www.deervalley.com

Canyons Resort was acquired by Vail Resorts in May 2013 and will now be a part of the “Epic Pass” program, connecting eight world-class mountains with one unlimited ski pass. Resorts on the pass include: Canyons, Heavenly, Northstar, Kirkwood, Breckenridge, Keystone and Arapahoe Basin. www.canyonsresort.com

The Utah Olympic Park will host the FIBT Bobsled Skeleton World Cup Dec. 6-7, FIL Luge World Cup Dec. 13-14, and the Olympic Qualifier for the Nordic combined and ski jumping events Dec. 29. www.utaholympiclegacy.com

Dining and accommodation updates:

ember + ash, the new restaurant concept from Food Network star and Utah native, Chef Viet Pham, is set to soft open in late November/December 2013. The restaurant will be located at 201 Heber Ave. offering simple dishes in a laid-back communal atmosphere. Local Utah ingredients will be the focus cooked along the “ember + ash” theme of hearth-smoked, grilled, over-embers dishes. The restaurant will experiment with smoking and aging meats and cooking game in non-traditional ways.

Park City Food Tours, which began in early 2013, are progressive dining tours led by local residents who share their cultural and historical perspectives on Historic Park City's Main Street. www.parkcityfoodtours.com

High West Distillery and Saloon, Utah's first distillery since Prohibition, debuted the distillery's newest barrel aged cocktail, The Barreled Boulevardier, in May and continues plans to extend to its second location on nearby Blue Sky Ranch for a true cowboy cocktail experience. www.highwest.com

Wasatch Brew Pub became Park City's first brewery since Prohibition in 1986, and recently released their new brew, “Ghostrider,” in April 2013. www.wasatchbeers.com
