Party Like it's 1914: Centennial Celebrations Kick-off for Chatham Bars Inn
Inspired by the fanfare of yesteryear, a series of throwback celebrations are in store this month to commemorate the iconic retreat's 100th anniversary. They include:

June 9 – Ice Cream Social: an old-fashioned ice cream social (with birthday cake) at 3 p.m. will mark the official anniversary, mirroring the celebration that opened Chatham Bars Inn a century ago. Arranged as a treat to guests and the local community, the family-friendly party is compliments of the Inn, and will include entertainment by the Chatham Town Band, face painting, balloon twisters, popcorn, cotton candy and other treats for the young and young at heart.

June 14 – Lawn Games, Antique Cars, a Speakeasy and Roaring 20s Costume Ball:

• From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the South Lawn will host old school lawn games and a croquet tournament, perfect for families celebrating Father's Day on the Cape. The Chatham Antique Car Invitational at Chatham Bars Inn will add to the afternoon's vintage vibe.

• That evening, guests will dress to the nines in their finest flapper attire and the Inn's interiors will be redesigned for a Roaring 20s Costume Ball from 6 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $95 and include a cocktail reception, three-course dinner (with cash bar), a Centennial keepsake, and dancing to a 20-piece band playing Big Band and jazz favorites. Prizes for best attire will be awarded.

• Sacred Cod tavern will evoke the underground glamour of the Prohibition era that evening when it's transformed into Hardy's Speakeasy (a nod to Chatham Bars Inn's founder, Charles Ashley Hardy). Starting at 5 p.m., the secret password at the door will grant guests entree to an a la carte menu and specialty drinks, with live jazz from 10:30 p.m. to 1 a.m.

June 24 – Retrospective by the Hardy Family: Oral historian Charles Ashley Hardy III will lead a presentation on Chatham's history, including family photos and memorabilia from the Inn that was founded by his grandfather. Held from 4-6 p.m. in the South Lounge, tickets are $10 and reservations are available by calling (508) 945-0096. All proceeds will benefit the Chatham Historical Society.
