Peninsula Hotels Launch Immersive Art Experience - Art in Resonance

The Peninsula Hotels is taking visitors beyond the selfie wall with the launch of Art in Resonance, an immersive contemporary art experience that engages all of the senses. This first-of-its-kind global art program has kicked off at The Peninsula Hong Kong and will travel the world. #artinresonance

Acclaimed curatorial duo Isolde Brielmaier and Bettina Prentice collaborated across two continents to bring this international collection of experiential art installations to life, just for The Peninsula Hotels. They hand-selected boundary-pushing contemporary artists from around the world to create exclusive, original works rooted in physical experiences, designed to amplify the senses and resonate with guests on an emotional level. More than two-years in the making, the installations encourage collective participation from both guests and the public, and include:

  • Janet Echelman’s ethereal, larger-than-life sculpture that magically floats above of The Peninsula Hong Kong’s façade, harnessing the power of light and wind to create an ever-changing structure
  • The Wonder Room, a complex modern take on the Chinese teahouse, designed to help all who enter quieten their minds and reconnect with themselves and each other, crafted with meticulous woodworking techniques by MINAX Architects founder, Zhi-gang Lu
  • Timothy Paul Myers’ inspired installation featuring furniture and everyday items wrapped in red felt, which aims to conjure personal memories and remind viewers of the ephemeral nature of life.
  • Iván Navarro’s HOME installation uses light to play optical illusions and activate both sensorial and psychological experiences in his viewers, drawing them in toward a hypothetical endless place of reflections and echoes.

Following its Hong Kong launch, Art in Resonance will travel to The Peninsula Paris this fall to be joined by additional, newly commissioned installations from Parisian artists. This rhythm will be replicated twice each year, snowballing as the program travels and grows in each city of the 10 locations of The Peninsula Hotels and three under development in London, Istanbul and Yangon.

Rather than simply providing a forum for artists to display existing work, Peninsula is making a significant investment in supporting emerging and mid-career artists financially, logistically and emotionally, allowing them to bring their original concepts to life and ensuring the health of the local cultural ecosystem.
