Peter de Savary’s Merry Harriers - The UK's first Llama Trekking Inn

Peter de Savary’s Merry Harriers - The UK's first Llama Trekking Inn
In keeping with the traditional country inn style, the rooms offer attractive and comfortable accommodation with exceptional views, and compliment the existing three ensuite bedrooms in a converted barn in the gardens.

Full of character and life, the dog-friendly traditional inn offers excellent food, award-winning local ales and wines, a lovely garden, first-rate accommodation with seven ensuite bedrooms, and an element of the unexpected with their remarkable, “Surrey Hills Llama Treks”.

Owned by Peter de Savary (www.desavary.com) since May 2017 and run by husband and wife team, Sam and Danielle Montgomery-Page, the welcoming Free house is steeped in history, with the landlords’ names through the ages written on the pub walls. Sam brings his wealth of experience and talent to the kitchen, taking pride in using the freshest and best ingredients – foraged where possible (nettles, blackberries, wild garlic) - and sourced within a 15-mile radius. The menu has been designed to offer heart-warming freshly cooked traditional pub staples and Chef’s Specials, including exceptional Sunday Roasts and lighter bites, such as sharing platters, Smoked Salmon, Prawn & Gazpacho Platter and Ham Hock Terrine. Seasonal specialities are a highlight, with Wild Mushroom and Hambledon Nettle Risotto a current favourite. The emphasis on local suppliers continues at the bar where at least two of the four Real Ales on offer are from Surrey Brewers and the Merry Harriers Garden Cider is firm favourite, made using Hambledon apples, donated by residents to the cider press. Local wines contribute to an impressive wine list and freshly mixed cocktails are on offer beside spirits and superior soft drinks.

The attractively equipped en-suite rooms are furnished to a high standard, with modern shower rooms, Egyptian cotton bed linen, tea and coffee making facilities and flat screen TVs. Deep in rural England, with no streetlights or traffic noise to disturb your sleep, sunsets are spectacular. Sit out on a clear night and see the magnificent starlit sky, enjoy the night sounds of the resident owls, if you are lucky a badger might come snuffling by. Breakfast is served in the pub or garden and can be delivered to your room in hampers if you have a very early start, or prefer to take it with you.

Less than an hour from London (five minutes from Milford Station), the Merry Harriers is situated in the picturesque village of Hambledon, just seven miles from the charming market town of Haslemere in a remarkable pocket of England - in the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and on the edge of the South Downs National Park. A haven for walkers and cyclists, the Merry Harries offers guests to experience the landscape a little differently, with their fabulous llama treks and picnics on the Greensand Way.
