Pezula Spa Voted Top Hotel Spa in Africa

Pezula Spa at Pezula Resort Hotel & Spa in Knysna, South Africa, has again been selected as one of The World's 100 Best Spas in the Condé Nast Traveller Readers' Spa Awards 2009. In addition, this year it was named 3rd Best Hotel Spa in Africa, Middle East and Indian Ocean. No other spa in Africa made the list in any of the categories.

These are the 6th annual Readers' Spa Awards and the second time that Pezula Spa has made the list, although this year it improved its position from 5th to 3rd. The awards are based on votes received from readers who are invited by the magazine to nominate their favourite spas in 11 categories, ranging from urban day spas to country retreats, and to rate them according to a number of criteria.

Each spa is scored out of a maximum of 100 points to give an index of satisfaction with spa facilities and services. The criteria include ambience/décor, body treatments, cuisine and service/staff. Pezula Spa’s overall satisfaction percentage was an incredible 92.29%. Last year Pezula Spa scored 91.84%. The Best Spa in this category, The Spa at the Chedi, Oman, scored 95.20%. The Top Spa in the World, Caudalie Vinothérapie Spa, Marqués de Riscal, Spain, scored 95.45%.

Since opening in February 2005, Pezula Spa has been lauded with a number of awards and accolades. Last year it was voted Favorite Spa in Africa in the 2008 SpaFinders Readers' Choice Awards and received the Consumers’ Choice Award for the Best Retreat in Africa. It was named Africa’s Leading Spa Resort in the World Travel Awards. In 2007 it was voted one of The Top 15 Overseas Hotel Spas in the 2007 Condé Nast Traveller Readers' Travel Awards.

Products used for signature treatments form part of the Maruwa collection, a uniquely African range of body treatment products incorporating ingredients and essential essences garnered from the indigenous fynbos of the Western Cape.

In January Pezula launched a Medi-Spa facility which features a comprehensive menu of specialist treatments for a variety of conditions. The Medi-Spa team is headed up by Joan Maré-Reid, a qualified nurse and experienced beauty therapist, and includes two respected members of the medical profession and a medical herbalist.
