Poetry Inn Begins a New Chapter as Sttupa Estate Napa Valley

High above the Stags Leap District, the discreet hillside retreat long known as Poetry Inn Napa Valley begins its next chapter under a new name: Sttupa Estate Napa Valley. The transition signals a thoughtful evolution for the property while preserving the intimate, guest-focused approach that has defined it for more than two decades. Here,  privacy, personalization, and a sense of quiet luxury are givens.

Sttupa Estate

The new name draws inspiration from the concept of a stupa, a symbolic place meant to connect humankind with the natural world. That philosophy aligns naturally with the estate’s setting and its enduring emphasis on serenity and authenticity. Sttupa Estate continues to offer a form of intimate and discreet hospitality where each stay is designed with care and intention.

“We hold profound appreciation for our guests and firmly believe that honoring the core values of a place like Poetry Inn allows us to build upon its strong legacy while deepening the long-term relationships we value so highly,” says Managing Partner Juan-Pablo Torres-Padilla. “As a family group, our goal has always been the pursuit of excellence, guided by an unequivocal commitment to our guests as well as by a philosophy of continuous improvement, refinement and respect of tradition and legacy in everything we do—from creating world-class wine at Sullivan Rutherford Estate to producing agave spirits of the utmost level of purity with Loco Tequila.”

Following a change in ownership in 2024, a team of seasoned hospitality professionals began enhancing the experience while preserving what longtime guests value most. New offerings include curated wellness programs and bespoke culinary experiences created in collaboration with Michelin-caliber Napa Valley chefs.

“We are honored to build upon the legacy of Poetry Inn as we introduce Sttupa Estate to our guests,” says Director of Operations Scott Trace. “We remain deeply committed to the long-term friendships and relationships we value so highly while thoughtfully elevating the hospitality experience that has made this property such an unforgettable retreat.”

Founded in 2005, the estate has long ranked among Napa Valley’s most exclusive small hotels. With sweeping views that extend toward the Stags Leap District, the adults-only property sits behind a gated drive accessible only to registered guests, creating a true sanctuary in the heart of wine country.

The architecture bears the signature of acclaimed Napa Valley designer Howard Backen, whose approach favors natural materials, generous indoor-outdoor flow, and an understated elegance that complements the surrounding landscape. Suites feature wood-burning fireplaces, expansive marble bathrooms, deep soaking tubs, indoor and outdoor showers, and private west-facing terraces overlooking the valley below.

Beyond the guest suites, the estate offers an outdoor pool and whirlpool, a serene on-site spa treatment room, and direct access to a private scenic hiking trail connecting to the nearby Rector Reservoir Wildlife Area.

Mornings begin with a multi-course, seasonally driven breakfast prepared by the property’s executive chef. The experience extends well beyond the table. Prior to arrival, a dedicated Sttupa Estate ambassador works with guests to craft highly personalized itineraries, arranging exclusive winery visits, coveted dining reservations, and private experiences throughout the valley. Guests also enjoy priority access to unique tastings and experiences at Sullivan Rutherford Estate, a winery recognized for producing some of Napa Valley’s most celebrated Merlot.

For longtime admirers of Poetry Inn, the spirit of the place remains intact. The new name simply signals the beginning of another chapter—one that continues to prioritize intimacy, thoughtful service, and a deep connection to the landscape that surrounds it.
