This handcrafted journey will offer guests an insider's view of the sites, food, and history of this magical time and place as chronicled in Barr's new book, “PROVENCE, 1970” Clarkson Potter/Publishers.

In December of 1970, the seminal figures of modern American cooking–M.F.K. Fisher, Julia Child, Simone Beck, James Beard, Judith Jones, and Richard Olney–found themselves together in the south of France. The gathering happened more or less by accident, but at a crucial moment: American taste was changing. It was here that a new direction for American taste was born, and these were the players who made it possible.

Travel + Leisure features editor Luke Barr's new book, PROVENCE, 1970, tells the story of this moment: a few weeks in the hills above the Cote d'Azur. Weeks that were full of meals and conversations, arguments and unspoken rivalries, when these culinary icons gathered and debated–and shaped–the future of food in America.

The itinerary for Return to M.F.K. Fisher's Provence journeyhas been carefully curated to include the highlights of these influential culinary times: historical sites, exquisite scenery, enviable wines, farmers markets, and culinary excellence. Guests travel together with knowledgeable guides, while local experts join the group along the way, providing behind-the-scenes, exclusive experiences to make this a truly memorable trip.

Key highlights of the journey include a cooking class with Michelin Star Chef Christian Plumail at L'Univers, visiting the village of La-Roquette-sur-Siagne, where M.F.K Fisher was staying in 1970, and lunching in the gardens at the famous Moulin de Mougins. Guests will learn the art of Provencal cuisine in Julia Child's former kitchen at her vacation house on the estate of Simone Beck, instructed by Kathie Alex, a former student of Beck's, all the while visiting local markets, enjoying cooking classes with local chefs and tasting award-winning French wines and olive oils.
