Art & cultural inspirations

Rosewood Sanya’s thoughtful art curations are a journey into the realms of nature, creativity and inspiration. In the arrival lobby, guests are greeted by several striking pieces of art work, the first is a seven-meter-high abstract floral oil painting on canvas by Argentine-based artist Carlos Arnaiz, who is renowned for his poetic representations that celebrate the natural growth and evolution of plants. The second painting is a unique and youthful creation by South Korean artist Byun Dae-young - Ice Cream Bear, and lastly, the Tower of Babel by Wuhan-based artist Ding Hao is placed in the corner of the arrival lobby, and is carved from bamboo and wood. Ding spent an entire year to craft this sculpture, and it represents the spirit of limitless freedom and truth.

At the HAI infinity pool bar, on the 13th floor, with a stunning backdrop set against the water sporting island of Wuzhizhou, is perched a two-meter high sculpture of a man wearing a diving mask, which represents the celebration and bravery of the human spirit, to explore the unknowns of the deep sea and to furthest reaches of the universe.

Octopus and Fish are a sculpture made of steel wire, steel sheets, silver solder and gold flakes. They are the masterpiece of British born artist Hill Thomas. Octopus and Fish are hung on the East Kitchen wall, inspiring everyone to live a life of boundless energy and vitality.

As if diving into the floor, Mahogany Whale Tail by West Virginia US-based artist Thomas Givens displays a powerful force connecting the space between the majestic 14th floor reception with the elevator foyer. The dramatic full sea view of the 14th floor reception area at such a high level, is unlike any other luxury resort, and surely captivates our guests with a stunning full view of the South China Sea.

Also at the hotel reception, Guangzhou Academy Professor Qin Da Li’s Shu Hai, is displayed: a gigantic rattan-woven book sculpture which is placed behind the reception desk, showcasing the local weaving techniques at its best. It is also a metaphor for how Rosewood Sanya welcomes and celebrates guests who create their own beautiful Rosewood journeys. These Rosewood journeys are eventually and metaphorically, recorded into the books of the library at the resort.
