Royal Portfolio's La Residence Voted World's Best Hotel

Royal Portfolio's La Residence Voted World's Best Hotel
(La Residence was voted #1 in the world, along with the Lodge at Kauri Cliffs at Matauri Bay, New Zealand, which also achieved the identical score: 99.2 out of 100.)

La Residence is an 11-suite country-house hotel envisioned and curated by South African hotelier, Liz Biden. It is located in the heart of the Franschhoek Valley, about two hours from Cape Town, and encircled by vineyards, plum orchards and olive groves. La Residence and its two celebrated sister properties -- cliff-top Birkenhead House on the Indian Ocean at Hermanus, and Royal Malewane safari lodge in Greater Kruger Park - comprise Biden's The Royal Portfolio.

"I was both thrilled and humbled when we learned we had been granted this award," said Biden, ascribing it immediately to the approach of the team at La Residence; "our policy has always been to seek attitude before qualifications, hiring people who will instinctively be open and honest and give of their time whenever possible...and that is, I am sure, why La Residence won."

First published in 1988, Condé Nast Traveler's Readers' Choice Awards are considered by many as the ultimate accolade. This year, some 80,000 of the magazine's million subscribers (double the number in previous years) cast 1.3 million votes for more than 16,000 hotels and resorts around the world.
