Santa Fe's La Fonda Adds Luxury 'Hotel within a Hotel' Concept with The Terrace Inn

Santa Fe’s iconic La Fonda on the Plaza is turning 100 in 2022. And all while celebrating its storied past, the hotel is ushering in a new era in hospitality with the unveiling of The Terrace Inn at La Fonda. This “hotel within a hotel” concept offers guests an exclusive Santa Fe rooftop retreat.

To create the Inn, the hotel reimagined its 15 Terrace suites and rooms and added a serene common space, the perfect spot for relaxation and refreshment. Among many other amenities, the Terrace Inn has its own dedicated check-in and concierge as well as private whirlpool hot tub overlooking the beautiful Sangre de Cristo Mountains.

Barbara Felix, a renowned architect and longtime steward of La Fonda’s design heritage, spearheaded the remodel project. Inspired by New Mexico’s varied landscapes, distinctive architecture and the Navajo, Pueblo and Hispanic cultures, the rooms are a mix of old and new. The furnishings blend minimalistic, clean lines with historic and cultural elements and original art unique to the region, including refinished 100-year-old heart pine wood flooring. Contemporary elements include custom window sheers that incorporate the work of award-winning Crow painter Del Curfman and the tranquil cascading tiles featured in the updated showers.

What is outside these rooms is just as compelling as the interiors. Each opens onto a private patio or balcony that overlooks the beautiful Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis de Assisi or the historic Loretto Chapel and the sunlit Sangre de Cristo mountains. The patios and balconies range in size from 20 to 400 square feet.

Terrace Inn room rates start at $500 per night and include complimentary breakfast in La Fonda’s La Plazuela restaurant or via room service.
