Shangri-La Hotel Opens in Beijing's Tallest Building
August 19, 2010
With unrivalled views over the city, the hotel soars 330 metres above the China World Trade Center at the heart of Beijing's Central Business District.
China World Summit Wing
, Beijing provides direct access to the city's coveted designer shops in the China World mall as well as to luxury apartments, the regional headquarters of multinational and Chinese corporations, and the exhibition hall, all within the multi-use complex. Three sister properties, China World Hotel, Beijing, Traders Hotel, Beijing and Kerry Centre Hotel, Beijing connect seamlessly via indoor walkways and footbridges.
China World Summit Wing, Beijing features 278 guestrooms including 29 suites on levels 64 to 77, with floor-to-ceiling views of the city and an average guestroom size of 65 square metres, the most spacious in the city. The view from the hotel's west-facing guestrooms and suites extends all the way to the rooftops of the Forbidden City, approximately three kilometres away.
All rooms present a classic wooden decor with subtle Chinese touches divided into distinct areas for rest, leisure and work, mood lighting, large feather duvets and exquisite amenities.
Features include complimentary broadband and wireless Internet access, 40-inch flat-screen televisions, DVD players, iPod docking stations, Nespresso coffee machines and designer beds. Guests can take advantage of the round-the-clock butler service, in-room dining, technology concierge, business centre and personal shoppers.
China World Summit Wing, Beijing features the city's highest dining and entertainment venues: the hotel's signature restaurant Grill 79, The Lounge, the bar Atmosphere and the Chairman's Rooms and The Peak, exclusive private dining facilities from level 79 upward, including an observation deck on level 81.
An outpost of Hong Kong's legendary restaurant, Fook Lam Moon offers gourmet Chinese cuisine on level four. Nadaman, the Japanese restaurant, as well as Songkran, the Thai restaurant and retail lifestyle venue, will open later this year.
One of the key features at the hotel is The Summit Lobby, the hotel's main entrance, with an area size of 1,780 square metres and a ceiling soaring up nine metres, which provide a grand sense of arrival, heightened by the wall mural, mood lighting, and the “champagne bubbles” – shaped glass chandeliers.
The wall mural is seven metres in height and known as The Art of Life, and portrays the rhythm of contemporary Chinese art inspired by nature – mountains with lush trees and foliage, flowers and waterfalls. The “champagne bubble” glass chandeliers originate from the Czech Republic and each set weighs 500 kilograms. Four of these sets are located in the China World Tower lobby and comprise of 600 pieces of hand-blown coloured and clear glass bubbles.
For the relaxation and recreation of guests, the hotel features a lifestyle sanctuary with 24-hour gymnasium and indoor infinity swimming pool on level 78, as well as CHI, The Spa, Shangri-La's signature spa brand and Beijing's highest spa retreat on level 77, with six treatment rooms.
China World Summit Wing, Beijing also unveils 5,500 square metres of conference and banqueting space. Dominating the third floor is the Summit Ballroom, the largest pillar-free ballroom in a deluxe hotel in Beijing. Spanning 2,340 square metres with a ceiling height of 10 metres, the ballroom can accommodate up to 2,000 people theatre style and 1,400 guests for banquets.
Backdrops include art panels to frame grand banquets, receptions, celebrations and formal conferences. One-third of the ballroom features bulletproof floor-to-ceiling windows that allow natural daylight to light the room. With direct lift access from the car park, the ballroom can easily be transformed into a car showroom for model launches.
Additional facilities include a rooftop Pine Garden on level six, a 95-seat auditorium and 12 function rooms, all with natural daylight and ranging in size from 44 to 269 square metres. Organisers benefit from a dedicated events manager, a meetings butler and an audio-visual technician on standby at all occasions.
The complex's own underground subway station, Guomao, is a strategic artery connecting the new landmark to the rest of the Beijing metropolis. Beijing Capital International Airport can be reached in approximately 45 minutes via the airport expressway, while Beijing Railway Station is only a short 15-minute drive from the hotel.
China World Trade Center opened 20 years ago and it includes hotels, offices, apartments, exhibition halls and a shopping mall. It is one of the largest upmarket commercial mixed-use developments in the world and hosts a large number of multinational corporations and global high-end retail stores. Many domestic and international conferences and events have been held at the complex, which also hosted numerous heads of state, government officials, business magnates and social celebrities.
China World Tower is part of the phase three project, the latest chapter for China World Trade Center. The development is leading the way in creating a community of active, creative people in a vibrant, fast-moving city, signalling that Beijing has arrived as a centre for international business on par with Singapore, Hong Kong and Taipei.
