Singita Offers Horseback Safaris in Tanzania

Singita Offers Horseback Safaris in Tanzania
Situated along the Western corridor of the Serengeti, this is one of Africa's most pristine wilderness areas, and scene of the thrilling annual wildebeest migration.

The guided horseback safaris will be available throughout the year, with the exception of the wet seasons (April through mid-May and November through mid-December). The itinerary will include two nights at Singita's Sasakwa Lodge, the only member of Relais and Chateaux in East Africa, as well as two nights at Singita Faru Faru. Departing from Singita Sasakwa, where riders will be outfitted at the state-of-the-art Equestrian Centre, a maximum of six riders will go out on safari, accompanied by two seasoned guides. Over the next three days their journey will take them through the vast, game-rich plains of the Grumeti Reserve where up close and personal sightings and magnificent wildlife encounters await.

Equestrian Manager for Singita Grumeti Reserves Alison Mundy said, “We have 18 well-schooled horses stabled at Singita Sasakwa consisting of Thoroughbreds, various cross breeds and nine South African Boerperde -- a breed known for its outstanding temperament and comfortable paces -- making them ideal for longer horseback safaris.” The horseback safari will include on the day of arrival a short orientation ride across the plains. This will be followed by sundowners at the Equestrian Pavilion, dinner and an overnight stay at the luxurious Sasakwa lodge. The next morning riders will depart for their two-night stay at Faru Faru Lodge. The four- to five-hour ride will cross the magnificent grasslands and savannah of the Sasakwa Plains, arriving in time for lunch and a siesta.

On the third day, guests will arise early for a ride along the banks of the Grumeti River, with the forest abuzz with abundantly diverse bird life and game, including the rare black and white Colobus monkeys. Then, return to Faru Faru with its poolside Swahili-style beach offering welcome respite from the heat, and a second night in the laid-back sophistication of the lodge overlooking a watering hole with frequent sightings of the Big 5. On the final day, riders will head back on horseback to arrive at Sasakwa at midday, where the last night of the four-night safari will be spent. The four-night package is fully inclusive from $5,790 per person sharing (excluding airfares and transfers). Reduced rates apply to non-riders accompanying their riding partners. The safari may be extended to include additional nights at either of the lodges. Singita Grumeti Reserves spans over untouched wilderness, offering an "Out of Africa" experience. It comprises three spectacular lodges -- the flagship Singita Sasakwa Lodge, Singita Sabora Tented Camp and Singita Faru Faru Lodge -- each with its ambience, and set on an area almost the size of the Mara National Park.
