Six Senses Kyoto, an eco-luxury wellness resort in the heart of Kyoto is hosting a “Matcha Promotion” through June 20, 2026, at its micro-seasonal dining venues Sekki and Café Sekki. During the season of fresh tea, guests are invited to enjoy the spring atmosphere of Kyoto in the dining room overlooking the courtyard or on the lush terrace, with matcha-infused afternoon tea, parfaits, and house-made drinks.
At Six Senses Kyoto, tea plants are cultivated alongside organically grown herbs and vegetables. The promotion begins during Kokuu (Grain Rain), one of the twenty-four solar terms traditionally cherished as the time for tea picking. Each year, the hotel offers an experience where hotel staff, and guests, harvest tea leaves together, connecting with nature through the five senses, including taste, aroma, and texture.
At the heart of the experience is the Matcha Afternoon Tea, available through June 20, 2026, and priced at approximately $45 per person. Offered exclusively from Kokuu (Grain Rain) to Boushu (Grain Beards and Seeds) in the solar calendar, the experience features tea from the historic Kyoto specialty shop Ippodo Tea. Guests are welcomed with Gyokuro “Rinpou,” whose mellow, rich flavor and slow-brewed cold preparation offer a soothing, aromatic introduction.
The sweets and savories incorporate Ippodo Tea matcha, offering new flavor combinations through pairings such as amazake verrines, citrus tartlets, marinated salmon trout wrapped with matcha, and matcha and white chocolate scones. Additional items such as hojicha cream daifuku and sencha dacquoise allow guests to further explore the depth of Japanese tea. The tea selection includes coffee, black tea, and a variety of teas, along with original herbal blends combining Six Senses-grown herbs with Ippodo Tea.
All sweets and savories are gluten-free and designed to be gentle on the body. Following the “Eat With Six Senses” philosophy, which prioritizes natural, sustainable ingredients and simple preparation, the menu reflects a holistic approach to wellness. Traditional fermentation techniques, including amazake cream and brown rice, enhance the depth of flavor while honoring cultural heritage.
For a more contemporary offering, the hotel introduces its first Matcha Parfait, available through June 20, 2026, at Sekki, Café Sekki, and Nine Tails. The parfait is priced at approximately $25 à la carte, or an additional $10 when substituting it for a course dessert. Inspired by karesansui, or Zen rock gardens, the dessert layers rich matcha sauce and granola with refreshing matcha agar jelly and Kiyomi orange, finished with hojicha cream. Additional layers of matcha crème chocolat, crème chantilly, and matcha ice cream are complemented by red bean paste, shiratama mochi, and black beans, creating a balanced profile of sweetness, bitterness, and acidity.
Café Sekki offers three limited-time beverages available throughout the promotion period, highlighting matcha through different approaches including freshness, fermentation, and tradition. Options include a yuzu matcha soda (approximately $7), a matcha kombucha (approximately $11), and traditional usucha (approximately $8), each showcasing the versatility of matcha across flavor profiles.
The experience extends to Six Senses Spa Kyoto with the “Matcha Rejuvenation” workshop at the Alchemy Bar, priced at approximately $80 per person for a 45-minute session. Guests can create personalized matcha bath salts using homegrown herbs and spices, encouraging relaxation, mindfulness, and a deeper connection to Japanese wellness traditions. Reservations can be made by calling 075-531-0712 or emailing wellness-kyoto@sixsenses.com.
Together, these offerings present a holistic exploration of matcha that goes beyond taste to engage all five senses.
