Soneva Jani Named in Travel+Leisure's 'It List' of Best New Hotels in the World
Inspired by a word that means "wisdom" in Sanskrit, Soneva Jani is located on the island of Medhufaru, part of an uninhabited five-island cluster in the Noonu Atoll of the Maldives. The highlight of the resort is its location within a private 3.5-mile lagoon with uninterrupted 360° views of the Indian Ocean. Every water villa at Soneva Jani is equipped with its own private pool, with some villas featuring slides going directly from the top deck into the lagoon below. The highlight of the villas is the retractable roof in the master bedroom, which slides back at the touch of a button for guests to stargaze from bed. The resort also features a spa, dive center, children's center, eco center, organic gardens, the first over-water observatory in the Maldives, and the first "silent cinema" in the Maldives, Cinema Paradiso, at which guests are given Bluetooth earphones as not to disturb the nesting wildlife in the area.
