Soneva Unveils World's Largest One- and Two-Bedroom Overwater Villas

On September 25, 2020, Soneva Fushi, the pioneering barefoot luxury resort in the Maldives, will unveil the largest one- and two-bedroom overwater villas in the world. These eight new Water Retreats will also be the first overwater villas to open at Soneva Fushi, known for its castaway-style villas spread throughout its lush "one island/one resort" jungle.

Both the 6,286-square-foot One-Bedroom Water Retreats and the 9,224-square-foot Two-Bedroom Water Retreats have been designed to ensure the utmost privacy for guests, as well as to make the most of the picture-perfect ocean vistas.

New innovations in the design include raising the Water Retreats high enough above the ocean so that the waves do not break against the underside, as generally occurs in overwater villas, which helps to reduce noise and vibration. Furthermore, the walls use recycled Styrofoam as insulation, which helps keep the interiors cooler and serves to muffle the sound of wind and waves.

All the new villas still come with a number of Soneva’s signature elements: a water slide that leads directly into the open sea below; massive outdoor bathrooms; and a master bedroom with a retractable roof to allow for stargazing right from bed. The pool deck is unusually spacious, complete with daybeds, and catamaran nets let guests sit above the waves.

The starting price for the new Water Retreats at Soneva Fushi is $2,626 per night for the One-Bedroom Water Retreat, and $5,232 per night for the Two-Bedroom Water Retreat.

Soneva has implemented extensive new guidelines, processes and procedures in the wake of COVID-19, including PCR tests on arrival, to ensure that each of its private-island resorts is a COVID-19-free paradise.
