Following an extensive redesign and reopening in March 2025, Spier Hotel and Wine Farm in Stellenbosch, South Africa, will introduce two exclusive-use villas in September 2025. Tucked between the Eerste River and wild Cape Gardens, the Garden and Riverside Villas combine the luxury and space of a private residence with full access to hotel amenities including the spa, rooftop bar, swimming pool, two restaurants, and Spier’s extensive collection of contemporary South African art.
Designed by Cape Town–based interior designer Jacques Erasmus in collaboration with architect Paul Luck, the villas follow a ‘less is more’ philosophy with interiors that layer contemporary handcrafted furniture with antique finds, rustic wood pieces, and textiles inspired by 300 years of Cape embroidery tradition. Garden Villa features earthy rust, taupe, and caramel tones with a private courtyard feel, while Riverside Villa is styled in calm, green hues inspired by the river and birdlife.
Each villa accommodates up to six guests across three spacious en-suite bedrooms, with indoor living and dining areas that flow into outdoor entertainment spaces featuring heated pools, verandahs, and fynbos gardens that form part of a larger rewilding project. The Garden Villa offers a pergola-covered lounge with fireplace, dining area, and built-in barbecue, while the Riverside Villa includes a fire pit with mountain views.
A dedicated team, including a private chef and butler, manages daily service and prepares meals using ingredients sourced from the farm and surrounding region. Bathrooms feature deep free-standing tubs, walk-in showers, and cabochon flooring with decorative inlays, while artisanal details such as hand-hammered metalwork, naturally dyed linen curtains, and botanical-printed bed throws by artist Ingrid Bolton connect each space to Spier’s legacy of craftsmanship and artistry.
