Situated on a spiritual vortex in one of the world’s most magical landscapes, the Four Seasons Resort Rancho Encantado is a mecca for mind, body and spirit, allowing guests to relax and discover their inner curiosity through an array of spiritual and outdoor excursions such as mountain biking, fly fishing, hot air balloon tours, rafting and tubing, hiking, climbing and rappelling, horseback riding, off-road Jeep tours, educational historic walks and hikes and luxury automobile loans through its partnership with Mercedes Benz.  Resort guests can book once-in-a-lifetime explorations through the Adventure Center’s very own Adventure Architect, Hans Loehr, who is uniquely qualified to guide and coordinate memorable experiences in Santa Fe and beyond.

Through the Adventure Center’s impressive and extensive programming, guests are encouraged to immerse themselves in the regional culture, landscape and history of northern New Mexico. From the moment guests call to book activities through the Adventure Center, to the moment they arrive, Hans and his talented team are there every step of the way, helping to curate the perfect itinerary tailored to every individual’s adventure palette.  Together, the Adventure Center and culinary team have created bespoke experiences for guests to enjoy during Santa Fe’s stunning spring season, featuring the below offerings.

  • Camino Encantado and Los Caminitos Canyon – Guests can embark on a private, two-hour guided hike along the ridges and arroyos surrounding Rancho Encantado. Grand vistas can be enjoyed while learning regional history and hearing colorful tales of this popular “dude ranch” and the characters who have visited since the early 1900s, including Betty Egan (the original visitor and purchaser of the ranch), John Wayne, Robert Duvall and even the Dalai Lama himself.
  • "Ancient to Present" Cultural Tour – This Native American-themed tour of nearby Bandelier National Monument offers historical perspective into the ancient cliff dwellings of the ancestral Pueblo people. A tour of the less-travelled areas of the monument follows ancient foot paths and kiva ladders into 800 year-old “caveats” built along the Frijoles Creek alongside towering cliffs. Guests are given important context for understanding the complicated 400+ year coexistence of Native Americans and the Spanish with a visit to the Poeh Cultural Center and/or some of the nearby reservations.
  • In the Footsteps of Georgia O'Keefe: Abiquiu and Ghost Ranch – The Abiquiu (Valley of Shining Stone) area has inspired artists and adventurers for over a century. Guests can marvel at this unique landscape while hiking, biking or horseback riding on the southern edge of the Colorado Plateau among majestic red rock mesas, the surreal white stone turrets of Plaza Blanca or the elusive Copper Canyon and towering above it all, Georgia O’Keeffe’s beloved Cerro Pedernal.
  • Exploration Biking – Thrilling downhill rides through the Santa Fe National Forest meander along rushing mountain streams, aspen, ponderosa pine and blue spruce with both mellow trails as well as more advanced single track customized to any ability level. Guests are provided with state-of-the-art full suspension Orbea mountain bikes for these popular rides available as guided three hour, half-day or full-day excursions into northern New Mexico’s thrilling wilderness.

Additionally, the resort’s team of food and beverage experts are tasked with curating experiential culinary-focused itineraries, perfect for guests seeking adventure with a kick of flavor.  Guests can aspire to transform into culinary masters through custom experiences such as fly fishing, Jeep tours and local art and food tours.

The fly fishing adventure entails transportation of guests from the resort to a ranch, where fishermen will demonstrate the safety and logistics of fly fishing.  From there, the guests will be transported to one of three different lakes, where they will fly fish for their very own main courses, which will be prepared by the resort’s F&B team at a lodge venue.  At the lodge, guests will enjoy their catch prepared as a delicious Trout Papillote with avocado, corn, marble potatoes, red onions, lemon-butter, herbs, garlic-chile crostini, and fennel apple slaw, or Trout Tacos crusted with blue corn and served with cabbage slaw and chipotle aioli.

Guests also have the option to explore the local terrain through guided Jeep tours. The tours will lead guests up to Pacheco Canyon Road to arrive at a prearranged lunch featuring a Chef’s selection of cheese & charcuterie, Chardonnay Poached Salmon, Green Chile Braised Short Rib, Chocolate Cake and more.  The Jeeps will then guide guests to a picturesque viewpoint of Santa Fe, 4,000 feet above sea-level.  The third option, the art & food tour, entails transportation to Red Mesa Cuisine, Eldorado, where guests will experience a guided native foods cooking class taught by two Native American chefs who will help guests prepare Venison Tenderloin with Cherry Sauce, Flourless Chocolate and Piñon Torte and more.  From there, guests will be transported to Patina Gallery, where they will embark on an exclusive, private tour with the gallery owners and artist.  Following the gallery tour, guests will be transported to Glenn Green Gallery, Tesuque, where they will be given a private tour of the sculpture garden and gallery.
