Step into the Surreal at Hotel Die Josefine, Vienna

Having undergone a timely renovation, the iconic Boutique Hotel Josefine has opened its doors again to host the chicest of the Jetset.

The minute you enter Hotel Josefine you are immediately transported to the roaring Twenties and Thirties, enrobed in glamourous decadence.

This special place was influenced by a special woman: Josephine de Bourblanc. Her touches can be seen throughout, under the new ownership of Manfred Stallmajer (The Guesthouse Vienna) and Susanne Hofmann, who have created a unique space that celebrates the surrealist vision of its founder.

Centrally located in Vienna - not far from the well-known Mariahilfer Straße - Hotel Josefine has 49 rooms with exquisite details making each one special. Stunning Art Deco design meets Viennese wickerwork, crystal chandeliers, surrealist art and analog furnishings. Each of the rooms offer a cozy retreat and supreme comfort. Velvet, brass, and green marble from Italy are the predominant materials that paired with gold details, mirrors, and handcrafted retro elements, create a very special flair.

Together with Daniel Hora, owner of the architecture firm "MEGATABS", Stallmajer created a luxurious hotel in which space and time can be forgotten. For the conversion and the furnishings, they enlisted local craftsmen and suppliers. A large part of the bespoke furniture and decorative elements were made by the "Göbel" in Styria. Unique artworks and mirrors by Ben Reyer adorn the corridors. Designer Praline Le Moult revives and reinterprets Josefine's drawings throughout many areas, such as the design of the staff's uniforms.

The basement of the hotel, houses the time-honored "Barfly's Club". While the space serves as a cozy breakfast area during the day, at night it transforms into a mystical establishment with an electrifying atmosphere. Velvet-covered stools and sofas, walls of green marble, and large mirrors evoke a bar where The Great Gatsby might have liked to frequent.

Mario Castillo, who opened "Barfly's Club" behind the doors of the former Hotel Fürst Metternich, was considered one of the most creative and well-known players on the Viennese bar scene. After his sudden death, his wife Melanie Castillo took over the bar and offered night owls, whisky lovers and friends of jazz a place to linger. During renovations, the establishment was temporarily relocated, but now Melanie Castillo is moving "Barfly's Club" back to the place where it all began.

Guests can include delicious home-made breakfast and seasonal specials, from the classic Viennese breakfast or sweet Russian breakfast in the Salon. Traditionalists will adore the signature “Sacher Würstl”, “Debreziner” or Beef Tartare with Viennese sweet and savoury breakfast soups being a must try.
