Step Into Your Own Norman Rockwell Painting at The Red Lion Inn with Festive Guest Package

This January, The historic Red Lion Inn invites guests to experience the legacy of American artist Norman Rockwell, a National treasure and local hero. The famous artist moved to Stockbridge, Massachusetts in 1953 where he resided until his passing in 1978. The Red Lion Inn's history with the artist is entwined, having been depicted in the 1967 painting Stockbridge Main Street at Christmas. The Inn’s owners, past and present, were models for Rockwell paintings. The Red Lion Inn honors Norman Rockwell with reproductions of his famous paintings on display throughout the hotel, some even signed and personalized by the artist himself.

One of Rockwell’s most famous paintings, Freedom from Want depicts smiling faces of multiple generations eagerly anticipating a Thanksgiving meal. Also known as the “Thanksgiving Picture” or “I’ll be Home for Christmas,” it is part of the Four Freedoms series inspired by President Franklin D. Roosevelts 1941 State of the Union Address.

At the Inn, guests will have the opportunity to sit for their own interpretation at the famous Rockwell table in the Main Dining Room, surrounded by a family-style lunch feast of slow-cooked turkey breast and gravy, stuffing, mashed potatoes, buttered greens, roasted carrots and cranberry sauce. To preserve the memory for generations to come, a professional photographer will be on site to capture the celebration. During their stay, guests will also enjoy house-baked oatmeal cookies and whiskey sour cocktails kits in room– two of Rockwell’s favorites.

A stroll through historic Stockbridge invites comparison to the 1967 painting as much of the Main Street scene remains the same. The limited-time package also includes a special guided tour and visit to the nearby Norman Rockwell Museum where the large-scale original Four Freedoms and Main Street Stockbridge paintings can be enjoyed. Explore ten galleries of art, including Rockwell’s 323 Saturday Evening Post Covers, and an award-winning biographical film. Changing exhibitions of American Illustration art, past and present, provide new perspectives into Rockwell’s beloved profession.
