Summer on an Island off the Coast of Portland, Maine

Summer on an Island off the Coast of Portland, Maine
The Historic Inns of America property is built in former soldiers’ barracks in Fort McKinley (dating back to the Spanish American War). The Inn has 44 rooms and features split level suites, balconies, fireplaces and kitchenettes, a welcoming and spacious lobby and a private in ground pool and cabana.

Summer 2017 packages include a special art package with the Portland Museum of Art. Maine has been a destination for artists for over a hundred years. The water, the light, the colors of the sky, the green pines, the rocky rugged coast, boats dotting the harbor; all have served as inspiration for such well known names as Winslow Homer, Andrew Wyeth and Eric Hopkins. With the Maine Art Package guests will find an artists' quality drawing pad and colored pencils in their room and for additional inspiration, they’ll receive two passes to the Portland Museum of Art and a copy of the museum's Highlights Catalogue, featuring many of the best works housed there. This package starts at $350 including one night stay, an afternoon snack and items detailed above. Additional art kits with a snack are available for $50.

The Inn at Diamond Cove also offers a best of both worlds package: two nights on Great Diamond Island and one night in Portland at the Portland Harbor Hotel. This package starts at $665.

Just a short ferry ride from bustling downtown Portland, Maine, Great Diamond Island is virtually car-free, making it easy for visitors to slow down and relax upon arrival. While on the island, guests may choose to explore the island’s scenic trails, relax by the Inn’s pool, play tennnis or have fun ten-pin bowling, using the wooden lane built to entertain the soldiers housed at the Fort.

The Inn’s interiors are inspired by the historic character of the original landmark structure, integrating modern sensibilities while retaining key historic elements. Architectural details reference the classic Maine cottage, with a contemporary interpretation on this New England seaside aesthetic.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are available at the Inn. Lunch and dinner are also served just down the hill at Diamond’s Edge Restaurant (note, schedule varies). The island’s General Store also offers sandwiches and grocery items; guests may choose to dine on their balconies or enjoy the privacy of their kitchenettes.

Reservations for the Inn may be made online at InnAtDiamondCove.com. Opening rates start at $219.
