The Bahamas' Newest Property: The Island House Set to Open This Spring
“The goal of The Island House is to offer travelers a personalized Bahamas experience with unique programming, one they can't find at more mainstream resorts,” shares The Island House director Lauren Holowesko. “The hotel will embody the local spirit of the island; a place of celebrated food, esteemed art and overall wellbeing.”

The hotel's most anticipated attributes include:

Health &Wellness. The Bamford Spa will offer a range of services for guests from therapeutic massages to herbal body scrubs. The Island House signature treatments will be available later this spring. As the first in the Caribbean, the property will feature a fully authorized AntiGravity Yoga program, an innovative fitness regime combining traditional yoga with aerial art, Pilates and dance using a custom-made aerial hammock. Padel courts imported from Scotland, a 25-meter lap pool, movement studio, fully equipped gym, and two squash courts round out the property's wellness offerings.

Local Arts and Cinema. Like The Island House itself, the 48-seat cinema has been designed to captivate guests and local culture enthusiasts alike. A perfect complement to the property, the cinema will regularly feature both blockbuster and independent Caribbean productions. Additionally, the space will host live music, seminars and speaking events. The Island House has an ongoing request for artwork submissions with aims to capture emerging Bahamian talents. Their work will be showcased throughout the property, adding to the budding arts scene in Nassau.

Dining. In addition to the popular Mahogany House, which opened in December 2010, there are a variety of dining choices throughout the property. Shima, an open-air dining experience on the hotel's top floor, is inspired by the fresh, lively flavors of Southeast Asia. From BarShima's terrace perch, guests may enjoy an innovative Caribbean cocktail or a glass of Bonnie's Revenge, The Island House's private wine label. The Coffee Bar located on the main floor will serve daily breakfast as well as local fruits, fresh baked pastries and breads throughout the day.

Inspiration. Each space within The Island House is designed by New York-based luxury design firm Champalimaud. With an emphasis on creating warm spaces indicative of the region, the firm fashioned a relaxed interior with bespoke furnishings and contemporary art to evoke a chic and tranquil sanctuary. The design focuses on quality of the guests' experience, reflecting The Island House's ethos: offering a welcoming space that captures the local spirit.

Accommodations. The hotel will feature 30 garden and ocean view guestrooms boasting a rain shower, separate bath and private outdoor terrace. Two expansive poolside cottages partition into suites and junior suites with such amenities as an alfresco shower, 580 square-foot porch and hanging day bed. In addition, there will be six spacious two and three-bedroom apartments with views of the ocean and the picturesque southern expanse of the island. All accommodations will carry the Bamford Body Collection, Apple TVs and complimentary Wi-Fi.

Guests searching for the most accomplished Bahamas experience can set off to the Exuma Cays, discovering the unspoiled natural beauty and marine environment of private island, Highbourne Cay. Day excursions as well as multi-night stays in a beach cottage are available to The Island House guests.

The Island House rates start at $550 per night for double occupancy, and are inclusive of all taxes and fees.
