The Home Ranch to Celebrate Birthday of their Beloved Donkey, Poncho
The August 26th celebration will feature a special song entitled “Poncho and Fuzzy” (Fuzzy is Poncho’s best friend) written by Ranch Operations Manager Michael Moon; an Alfalfa Cake created by the ranch’s wranglers for Poncho and his four legged friends along with a cake for human consumption; a “Poncho” stuffed animal given to each guest; photos with Poncho; party hats, balloons, a sing along and games with prizes. Guests are also encouraged to wear their favorite “Poncho-inspired costume” for the Saturday celebration with a prize for the most creative!

While Poncho wasn’t born at The Home Ranch, the burro arrived in 1989. “Poncho’s job was to transport the kids’ picnic lunches in his two pack saddle every Tuesday,” relates Moon, who worked at The Home Ranch 20 years ago, and returned in 2016 as ranch operations manager. “Pretty soon, Poncho would disappear every Tuesday. He basically retired himself from that job. “

Poncho's duties are varied but mostly, his job is to meet and greet the guests, pose for photos and entertain the kids. Occasionally he reports on the big horses with a big loud bray when they escape through a hole in the fence!

“Poncho quickly turns to Eeyore when anything is asked of him,” says Moon, “but Poncho loves standing around and looking cute and would certainly win the prize for most photographed employee!”

Poncho stories will be collected from guests throughout the summer and posted at www.homeranch.com/about-us/poncho-the-donkey-celebrates-35-years/online.

Rooms are still available during Poncho's birthday week. During the summer months, weekly rates are available and start at $7100 per week. For further information or reservations, please visit www.HomeRanch.com or call 970.879.1780.
