The Merrion Dublin Unveils New Look For its Penthouse Suite
Cavey was also responsible for the original interiors of the Penthouse Suite when The Merrion opened its doors in 1997.

In keeping with The Merrion's understated Irish elegance with every detail considered, Cavey combined local suppliers with the finest international fabrics to create a private, home away from home for guests. "I wanted the Penthouse to sit at one with the rest of the guest rooms at The Merrion, staying true to its Irish roots, but with an edge, creating a specific identity for the suite, through touches of unusual color in beautiful fabrics and intriguing wallpapers, from start to finish," Cavey explained.

Highlights of the new designs include wallpaper from a collection of designs by renowned Italian artist Piero Fornasetti and upholstered sofas in Merrington Aqua fabric from London-based Sanderson. To add a touch of Irish charm, a hand-woven carpet from West Ireland's leading carpet maker, McMurray, was added to the space. The carpet is inspired by Irish Cubist artist, Maine Jellett, whose work hangs downstairs in the hotel and is part of The Merrion's exquisite art collection.

The Penthouse Suite is one of Ireland's largest hotel suites and spans across two floors with a separate rooftop terrace complete with a private cedar wood hot tub. "The Penthouse has long been an oasis of calm for Dublin, a haven in the city, and wonderfully private. The new interiors keep that idea front of mind, with a feeling of space and comfort throughout," comments Cavey.
