The Most Remarkable Retreat on the Arctic Circle - North Resort

At the heart of Finnish Lapland, precisely on the Arctic Circle, North Resort sits quietly beside the waters of Lake Miekojärvi. Surrounded by forest and almost entirely free from light pollution, the property offers a rare setting for experiencing the Arctic in its most elemental form.

Opening for the winter season 2026–2027, North Resort welcomes guests as the landscape settles into its most fascinating season. The days grow shorter, the lake freezes and the forest takes on an almost otherworldly stillness. From autumn through early spring, the Northern Lights may appear above the property, transforming the dark northern sky into an ever-changing part of the experience.

The resort comprises just 16 private residences, creating an intimate atmosphere where space and privacy are inherent to the stay. The architecture carries the distinctive handprint of Finnish designer and architect Heikki Riitahuhta, whose work brings together contemporary Nordic design, natural materials and a deep understanding of place. At North Resort, large windows frame the forest, lake and northern sky, allowing the landscape to become part of the architecture itself.

The same philosophy continues into the resort’s new interpretation of the traditional Finnish log sauna. Crafted as an experience rather than simply a facility, it brings together timber, heat, water and the surrounding Arctic landscape in a setting designed for slowing down and being present.

A Nordic food concept draws inspiration from the finest culinary traditions around the world, while a carefully curated collection of Arctic experiences takes guests deeper into the landscape — travelling by husky and snowmobile, meeting reindeer, or floating silently in the icy waters of the lake beneath the Northern Lights. Here, the Arctic is not simply a backdrop, but an essential part of the experience.
