The Pierre New York Luxury Hotel Unveils New Grand Suites

The 10 one-and two-bedroom Grand Suites are the hotel's most premier spaces. The Grand Suites are designed with custom furnishings, hand-crafted finishes and elegant details, such as rich silk and brocade fabrics, Murano glass chandeliers and hand-knotted carpets, and carefully integrated technology, including Bang & Olufsen audio and high speed internet connection.

Subtle couture touches reflect the Indian heritage of the Taj Hotels: Striking jewel tones and traditional decorative motifs pay homage to the royal Rajput dynasties that created the authentic palaces in India that now welcome Taj guests. Contemporary artwork hand-selected by fine arts consultant Mortimer Chatterjee showcases the mastery of noted and emerging Indian artists. In addition, many of the suites feature hand-colored wood engravings that depict various historic scenes of New York related to the suites' namesakes.

1. The Tata Suite (Suite 3903)
This prestigious suite is the hotel's Presidential Suite, named for Taj Hotel's parent company that is India's premier business house. The Tata Suite offers unrivalled views of Central Park and beyond to the George Washington Bridge from its perch on the 39th floor. Rich gold, silver and porcelain tones embrace a welcoming living room, two bedrooms with baths and a spacious dining room with service pantry.

The entry foyer, with its striking chocolate and cream terrazzo floor, leads into a gracious living room with panoramic park and city views to the north and east. Comfortably elegant sofas and large upholstered chairs face a decorative fireplace and large flat panel television surrounded by custom cabinetry housing the Bang & Olufsen home theatre system and a full bar. Walls are graced with pale gold paisley motif wallpaper; a hand-carved carpet in pale tones covers the floor. Custom Murano glass table and floor lamps offer multiple lighting schemes. The adjoining dining room accommodates dining for eight at a custom silver leaf table beneath a Murano glass chandelier. A second large flat screen television and audio equipment can easily convert the dining room into an executive meeting retreat. The adjacent pantry kitchen, with additional access from the entry foyer, features a two-burner stovetop, stainless steel refrigerator, microwave and bar sink. A powder room is located next to the service pantry.


Tata Suite master bedroom & bath

The master bedroom showcases a custom king bed with organic mattress fitted in luxurious linens and silk and brocade pillows in luxe tones of gold and silver. A slipper chaise lounge sits at the foot of the bed, offering additional seating to view the flat screen television. An inlaid desk commands the far corner. Expansive windows are draped with silk sheers and rich floor-to-ceiling silk brocade draperies. Custom lamps in warm copper are unique accents. The adjoining master bath is a symphony in luscious chocolate marble and porcelain tile, with dual sinks, warm wooden cabinetry, a large shower complete with marble seat, ceiling rain disk, wall showerheads and steam, and a separate spacious soaking tub with city views through the adjacent window. One entire wall features a series of paneled, mirrored closets lined in cedar and sandalwood with valet drawers and electronic safes. An adjacent silver mirrored vanity is accented with a zebra-striped stool.

The second bedroom features two custom twin beds fitted with luxurious linens and silk and brocade pillows, custom copper lamps and floor-to-ceiling silk sheers and draperies. Generous closets and open shelving surround a flat screen television. The adjoining bath includes a marble shower and bathtub.

The Tata Suite's 2,088-square-foot interior also showcases a photographic essay of the history of the House of Tata, books about Tata enterprises and hand-crafted artworks by artisans from Paramparik Karigar, an organization dedicated to preserving and promoting India's artistic heritage and supported by Taj Hotels.

This suite, which is available for $20,000 per night, may be combined with others to provide up to six bedrooms under one key, ideal for heads of state, or anyone traveling with an entourage or extended family.

2. The Rajput Suite (Suite 1616)
This 1,351-square-foot two-bedroom palace is designed for a connoisseur of India's artistic traditions. Its interiors are warmed with royal ruby and gold tones and artwork depicting Rajasthani architectural details throughout its two bedrooms, living room and pantry.

The entry foyer features a cream and Carrara marble floor, a large Venetian mirror and an exotic chair with ram's head finials and gold upholstery. In the spacious living room, custom furnishings inspired by collections from the Victoria & Albert Museum feature inlaid mother of pearl and expert silverwork that offer comfortably elegant seating near the decorative fireplace, set off by an intricate ruby and cream custom carpet. Bronze statues include the goddess of eternal energy Kali, displayed on a wooden stand, and a smaller image of Indra, god of rain and thunder, on the inlaid desk. Numerous coffee table books recount the privileged lifestyle of the princely rulers from Rajasthan. The made-for-royals carved dining table includes six stately filigreed chairs with ruby and chocolate upholstery and an adjoining ornately carved console beneath a custom Murano glass chandelier. The nearby service pantry features a two-burner stovetop, stainless steel refrigerator, microwave and bar sink.

The sumptuous master suite stars a rich ruby color palette and custom king bed frame that is hand-finished with centuries-old Zardosi embroidery, a royal craft that weaves gold and silver metallic threads into intricate Indian patterns and motifs. The marble bath features a large shower with marble seat and a separate soaking tub. The second bedroom includes two custom twin beds and an adjoining bath with marble shower and bathtub.

The Rajput Suite, which is available for $5,800 per night, may be combined with an adjoining guestroom (1612) to offer three bedrooms under one key.

3. The Charles Pierre Suite (Suite 2111)
The architectural and interior design project of this suite was entrusted to the architect Piero Lissoni. "I wanted to conceive and design a new experience of hospitality, carrying the spirit of the past through a design which is modern, sophisticated and silent," states the architect.

The Charles Pierre Suite was designed for the urbane traveler. Artwork and ethnic pieces amidst contemporary technology confer a distinctive style, which has always distinguished the projects of Piero Lissoni.

Located on the 21st floor, the suite was designed in collaboration with the Poltrona Frau Group, whose collection provided the carefully selected, iconic pieces from masters of 20th century design.

The Grand Suite 2111 was conceived as an apartment which welcomes guests into an entrance hall where both walls and ceiling are completely lined in a dark blue embossed Rubelli linen fabric, insulating the room from the sounds of the city. The hall opens onto the lounge area where contrasts of colors such as black, white, mustard yellow and ruby red play out. Central to the room is a large, custom designed white-lacquered wood bookcase, the original fireplace and large leather sofas. The paintings, from the Taj private collection, evoke history while the contemporary artwork, as in the bedroom chairs and the Cappellini designed tables, emphasize the multi-ethnic soul of the hotel.

The large terrace, with a view of Central Park, completes the Grand Suite and invites guests to drink in the Manhattan atmosphere.

4. The Getty Suite (Suite 1025)
This gracious 1,015-square-foot suite pays tribute to John Paul Getty, the oil company scion who purchased The Pierre in 1938 and owned the hotel until it became a cooperative. The Getty Suite offers a master bedroom with bath, a living room and dining area with service pantry, second bathroom and the hotel's second grand terrace.

The marble foyer leads into the living room with comfortably elegant sofas and oversized arm chairs upholstered in rich tones of blues and greens and arrayed in front of expansive windows overlooking the terrace and city beyond. A dining area accommodates six guests beneath a custom Murano glass chandelier. The nearby service pantry features a two-burner stovetop, stainless steel refrigerator, microwave and bar sink.

The living room and master bedroom are appropriately designed with hand-colored wood engravings of auctions and business life in mid-nineteenth century New York. The bedroom features a custom king bed with luxurious custom bedding, while the adjoining marble bath features dual vanities, a marble shower and separate soaking tub.

The suite's magnificent brick-tiled terrace, one of only two at the hotel, is accessed by French doors off the living room. The landscaped terrace is suitable for grand-scale entertaining.

The Getty Suite, which is available for $8,000 per night, may be combined with two additional guestrooms to offer three bedrooms under one key.

5. The Hutton Suite (Suite 1412)
This 1,115-square-foot one-bedroom suite is named for the noted industrialist Edward F. Hutton, who partnered with Charles Pierre to finance and open the hotel in 1930. The heiress Barbara Hutton, E. F. Hutton's niece, subsequently leased the suite for five decades as her New York pied á terre, where she also celebrated her short-lived 1953 wedding to her fifth husband, Porfirio Rubinosa.

Throughout the entry, living room and foyer are hand-colored wood engravings that illustrate financial life in New York City in the late 19th century.

The Hutton Suite, which is available for $6,500 per night, may be combined with up to two additional bedrooms (guestrooms 1415 and 1417) to offer two or three bedrooms under one key.

6. The Escoffier Suite (Suite 2015)
This suite honors the legendary chef August Escoffier, often called the "father of modern French cuisine." At the age of 85, Escoffier created the elaborate menu for the hotel's grand opening that captivated New York society and he stayed on as a guest chef for the first few months, initiating a tradition of culinary innovation that lives on today. Hand-colored wood engravings displayed throughout the suite celebrate New York's food markets and banquets from the late 1800s and early 1900s.

The 1,436-square-foot suite features a living room, dining room, and two bedrooms and baths with city views.

The living room features inviting custom seating facing a decorative fireplace, a gracious dining area and adjoining service panty with a two-burner stovetop, stainless steel refrigerator, microwave and bar sink.

The master bedroom offers a custom king bed with luxurious linens, a slipper chaise at the foot of the bed and an inlaid wooden desk. The master bath includes a marble soaking tub, separate seated shower, vanity and sink.

The Escoffier Suite is available for $5,800 per night.

7. The Park Suite (Suite 2804)
This 1,100-square-foot one-bedroom suite is named for its glorious views of Central Park, including a bird's-eye view of the Wollman Skating Rink. Hand-colored wood engravings on display in the foyer, living room and bedroom showcase winter scenes of skating and outdoor recreation in Central Park.

A rectangular entry foyer with double door entry and floors of cream marble leads into the living room. Sumptuous furnishings in pale gold and cream flank a decorative fireplace and a mirrored three-tiered coffee table, with custom table and floor lamps of smoked Murano glass. Beneath a striking silver and clear Murano glass chandelier, a custom dining table with silver leaf chairs can accommodate seating for eight. An adjacent pantry features a two-burner stovetop, stainless steel refrigerator, microwave and bar sink.


Park Suite bedroom

The master bedroom is regal in tones of pale gold and burgundy, with copper, black and gold accents. The master bath features a soaking tub with city views as well as a separate shower and marble vanity with dual sinks.

8. Suite 1714
This spacious 1,360-square-foot suite offers a living room, dining area with pantry and two bedrooms with baths, all with city views. Warm walls of pale gold and a custom carpet of burgundy and rose embrace generous upholstered furniture centered around a decorative fireplace. A round dining table accommodates four, and adjacent pantry features a two-burner stovetop, stainless steel refrigerator, microwave and bar sink.

The master bedroom features a custom queen bed draped in golden linens, a hand-woven ruby carpet in a basket weave pattern and chocolate paisley-papered walls. The marble bath offers a soaking tub, seated shower, marble vanity and sink. The second bedroom features two custom twin beds and a nearby marble bath.

9. Suite 927
This spacious 1,494-square-foot suite offers a marble floored entry, living room with dining area and pantry, and two bedrooms with baths, all with city views. Pale gold walls and a custom carpet of rose and taupe set off the custom seating upholstered in gold silk. A decorative fireplace, smoked Murano glass table and floor lamps complete the room. A round dining table accommodates up to four and the adjacent pantry features a two-burner stovetop, stainless steel refrigerator, microwave and bar sink.

At the end of an L-shaped hallway complete with coat closet, the master bedroom offers a custom queen bed draped in golden silk linens with taupe leather tufted headboard and custom copper accent pillows, a hand-woven carpet in shades of gold and ruby and warm walls papered in pale gold paisley.
