The Roof at The Rome EDITION reopens - A panoramic terrace above the capital

Just in time for spring’s arrival, The Rome EDITION reopens The Roof, its panoramic terrace on Salita di S. Nicola da Tolentino, 14, emerging as one of the city’s most exclusive destinations to enjoy the season. An urban retreat suspended above the capital’s rooftops, where contemporary design meets a Mediterranean spirit in a truly distinctive setting. From here, sweeping views unfold across some of Rome’s most iconic landmarks, from the Pantheon to the Acqua Paola Fountain on the Janiculum Hill, and the Basilica of Sant’Andrea della Valle.

Floating above the city, The Roof channels the spirit of the Riviera into the heart of Rome, a terrace where the pool reflects the sky and the horizon is not the sea, but the Eternal City unfolding below. Intimate and refined, the space is anchored by a spacious bar and restaurant area alongside a striking travertine pool, framed by elegant solid teak loungers. Large bronze and terracotta planters define the terrace, adding depth and warmth to the setting. Designed to offer a new perspective on Rome, it is a place where relaxation, conviviality, and gastronomy come together effortlessly.

This season, The Roof introduces a collaboration with Walmug, the eyewear brand born between Rome and Paris - two cities where tradition meets innovation. Rooted in the creative industries, spanning music, cinema, design, and contemporary art, Walmug celebrates individual vision, with each pair of glasses conceived as both an object of inspiration and a point of departure. The Rome EDITION team will be wearing Walmug sunglasses throughout the season, and visiting guests will also enjoy a special offer on the collection.

For 2026, The Roof introduces a dual dining concept designed to accompany guests from lunch through to evening. In April, the offering focuses on lunch and aperitivo, with dinner service launching from May onwards. The daytime menu is fresh, informal, and light. Dishes include Mediterranean-inspired classics such as The Burger with fennel mayonnaise, tomato, lettuce, and buffalo mozzarella, a sandwich with smoked provola, roasted aubergine, basil, mayonnaise, and fries, a selection of seasonal salads, and fried calamari and prawns served with pickled vegetables and soy mayonnaise. Celebrating Italian tradition, the menu features pasta dishes such as tagliolini with garlic, oil, chilli, and clams, and gnocchetti alla Sorrentina with tomato and mozzarella.

As the sun sets, the terrace transforms into an elegant evening destination, where the menu balances land and sea, evoking both Mediterranean flavours and Roman heritage. Starters include the Parmigiana Edition with aubergine, tomato, and buffalo mozzarella, and stuffed calamari with buffalo ricotta cream and parmesan biscuit.

The first courses express two distinct culinary identities: spaghetti with clams, capturing the essence of the sea, and tonnarello cacio, Sommati and pepper, a contemporary homage to classic Roman cuisine. Among the main courses, the standout dish is the mixed grilled seafood with salmoriglio. At the heart of the experience lies an express kitchen that celebrates the freshness of ingredients through classic, authentic techniques, most notably open-flame grilling, which brings a vibrant energy to the terrace as evening falls.

With its breathtaking views over the Eternal City, sophisticated atmosphere, and a culinary offering that celebrates seasonality and simplicity, The Roof at The Rome EDITION is once again set to become one of the defining destinations of the Roman spring and summer.
