The Top Seaside Destinations France Has to offer

Holidaymakers who love the sea breeze will find a whole host of beautiful locations along the more than 4,800km of France’s coastline. Now, that’s a lot of lapping waves from which to choose so, if you’re on the lookout for a beautiful coastal location at which to spend your time when next in France, here are three that should definitely be at the top of your list.

Le Touquet

In the northern part of France is Le Touquet, a beautiful seaside town that attracts visitors thanks to its 7km-long beach and classic French take on seaside living.

Spend days reclined on the beach, looking out over the gentle water of the English Channel, or go for a walk through breezy sand dunes.

There’s also lots on offer in the center of the town, including fashion boutiques, bakeries, fine restaurants and the Marché Couvert (covered market) which is perfect for picking up the catch of the day. If you’re on a self-catering stay, it’s a must-visit.

St Tropez

If you’re looking to journey further south for a taste of the French Mediterranean coast, then St Tropez is your answer.

A stunning town nestled in the French Riviera, St Tropez attracts those looking to soak up the sun while admiring the many yachts cruising up and down the picturesque coastline.

If you fancy a go at yachting yourself, there are plenty of opportunities to do so – just make sure to go with a reputable boating provider that you can trust and consider taking out boat insurance to help protect yourself.

Of course, if playing bosun isn’t your cup of tea, then there’s all sorts to enjoy in the city proper. Beach clubs where you can sample fine wines. Chic boutiques full of the latest fashions. Endlessly Instagrammable alleys and boulevards. Culture and history at the Annonciade gallery and Musee d’Histoire Maritime… it’s hard to go wrong here.

Bordeaux

Bordeaux is well known as being France’s main wine-growing region, but its name also graces a scenic port city. Located on the river Garrone in the southwest of the country, if you’re looking for a romantic getaway drenched in history with plenty of wine-tasting opportunities, Bordeaux is unmissable.

As well as wine-tasting (when in Rome, after all!), Bordeaux has lots for culture lovers, including a fine art museum, the 18th-century Grand Theatre, and a gorgeous historic center that’s perfect for days spent exploring and people-watching.

To get to the coast proper, simply head west for 40 minutes to Arcachon Bay. Renowned for its oysters, beach huts, white beaches and nature reserves, it’s the perfect choice if you want to get away from the bustle of the city for a few days.
