The Ultimate Guide to The South of France
March 31, 2017
However, when not enjoying champagne and shopping in Paris, there are actually some remarkable hidden gems throughout the South of France. Only a stone’s throw away from the tourist hotspots, there is a huge variety of lesser-known places just waiting to be discovered.
The South of France is an exotic destination for travelers and for those looking to add a touch of luxury to their holiday.
Stay in St Tropez
For many years, St Tropez has been associated with high-class clientele lounging on the beaches and filling the lavish restaurants. With its surrounding woodland and rocky outcrops, it is no wonder that this town has over 100,000 visitors a day throughout the summer. Even though it is a popular location, it has still managed to keep its charm, with its narrow streets and local markets.
Start by searching for
luxury villas, France
and really get the most from your stay. Staying in a private villa can be a welcomed addition to your holiday; especially if there is a pool and your own personal chef.
In addition to the many restaurants and beautiful beaches, there are also some great attractions to visit while staying in this town.
Every Tuesday and Saturday morning, this town hosts an open market on the famous Place des Lices. This market sells a wide range of bread, pastries, cheeses, sausages, flowers, herbs, spices, fruit and vegetables. There also a number of stalls which sell souvenirs, not tacky plastic types but good quality home accessories, antiques, mirrors and paintings.
If you are looking to explore the history of St Tropez why not take a stroll to Chapelle Sainte Anne? This small hilltop chapel has beautiful views and a romantic ambience. This chapel was built in 1618 to thank God for sparing St Tropez from the plague.
Relax in Cannes
Cannes is also known as a playground for the rich and famous. Because of its couture shops and restaurants, it is not hard to escape the wealth and glamour. With the streets lined with Porches and Ferraris and liner-sized yachts moored in the port, it serves as the perfect place to stay or even a day trip.
To take full advantage of Cannes, book a day in one of the glamorous spas. Brush shoulders with celebrity’s as you enjoy a glass of champagne and indulge in a full body massage. Many of the beaches in Cannes belong to the hotels. However, there are also plenty of public beaches to soak up some sun. Plages de la Bocca, Plages du Midi. Plage Gazagnaire and Plage du Casino are all open to the public and are the perfect opportunity to enjoy the warm sparkling waters of the Mediterranean Sea.
Explore Monaco
Monaco is renowned for its glamour and exclusivity because of the history which has been entwined with lavish living. Monaco offers up an array of international sporting events, multi-million-pound yachts and of course the chance to visit the infamous Monte-Carlo casino.
Monaco doesn’t lack on top quality restaurants and well-known chefs, the only problem you will have here is that you won’t be able to choose from all the perfect places to eat.
Visit Nice
Located in the south of France, Nice is a spectacular city which has grown through the ages. The architecture is simply breath-taking as is the beachfront promenades. This city offers performances of symphonies, opera and ballet as well as the L’Atelier Soardi which has once the workshop of Henri Matisse; and is now a private gallery with seasonal shows.
Nice is home to several Michelin Star restaurants, with can be found along the Promenade des Anglais. Nice is also known as a shopper’s paradise and is filled with designer boutiques, antique shops and street markets.
The South of France can be the idyllic destination for those who wish to add a touch of luxury to their holiday, and with so much to see and explore, will you be heading to France this year?
